TAKOMA PARK, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--US Medical Innovations, LLC (USMI) announced today that it has entered into new agreements with WEM Equipamentos Electrônicos LTDA (WEM), Ribeirão Preto – São Paulo, Brazil for the development, distribution and manufacturing of USMI's electrosurgical plasma generators, coagulators, and accessories and related products for use in surgery and endoscopy. WEM will jointly develop, along with USMI, and manufacture several types of the electrosurgical generators, coagulators and accessories. WEM will also have certain worldwide distribution rights for products manufactured by it.
The flagship product of the Canady Plasma® line is the Canady Vieira Hybrid Plasma Scalpel™ which both cuts and coagulates through biological tissue simultaneously. USMI received FDA 510k premarketing notifications for their electrosurgical generators and Canady Plasma® Coagulators and accessories on April 2011 and for the Canady Vieira Hybrid Plasma Scalpel™ in December 2011. The Canady Vieira Hybrid Plasma Scalpel™ was recently used in a number of surgical procedures at Providence Hospital in Washington, DC with virtually no blood loss and without the use of a traditional scalpel blade in the case of a total mastectomy by Surgical Oncologist Robert Dewitty, M.D. and avoiding the need for blood transfusions in 19 total hip and knee replacements by Director of Orthopedics Craig Thomas, M.D. USMI and WEM’s research team are co-developers of a new electrosurgical energy “Hybrid Plasma Technology” which is a marked breakthrough in electrosurgery.
