The City of San Antonio Chooses Skire Unifier for Project Development and Control

Initiative Will Improve Management of Capital Projects for One of Largest Cities in U.S.

MENLO PARK, Calif.--()--Skire, Inc. (www.skire.com), the leading global provider of cloud-based solutions for managing capital projects, facilities and real estate, today announced that the City of San Antonio has chosen Skire Unifier as its new portal for Enterprise Capital Improvement Projects. Unifier was chosen after a formal evaluation considering several other capital improvement systems.

The City of San Antonio (COSA) is the nation’s 7th most populous city. It has a $550 million bond program designated strictly for capital improvements. These projects include acquiring, constructing and enhancing new and existing local streets, bridges, sidewalks, drainage facilities, parks, athletic facilities, libraries and public health centers. The vast array of improvements to which COSA has committed required a new division, Capital Improvements Management Services (CIMS), to be created to more effectively control the 150+ projects through all phases of design, construction and inspection.

The CIMS department determined that the former capital improvement solution was limited in its ability to scale to an enterprise-wide solution. This realization led COSA to search for a new system that could address the full range of initiatives, including aviation and large scale building projects as well as a handful of 2007 bond projects that are scheduled for completion beyond 2012. San Antonio is currently preparing to ask voters to approve a $598 million bond program in May 2012 and plans to utilize Unifier for that entire program.

“We’re pleased to partner with the City of San Antonio to help it more effectively facilitate the numerous capital improvement projects in play,” said Steve Apfelberg, chief marketing officer at Skire. “Our Unifier solution is well-suited to meet COSA’s goals for enhanced insight and analysis, easier maintenance, and more efficient processes. COSA joins a rapidly expanding list of cities that are utilizing Skire for capital project and program management.”
