SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Zynga today announced the launch of FarmVille for the iPad, the company’s first app for the platform. The new app, which comes on the heels of FarmVille’s successful launch on the iPhone, creates a cross-platform FarmVille experience. Existing players can tend to their same farms on the web, the iPhone and the iPad while new players can create a farm. The app is free and available now in the iTunes App Store: www.itunes.com/appstore.
“We want to reach people wherever they want to play the games they love, and deliver the most fun and social experience on every platform,” said Steven Chiang, president of studios, Zynga. “The iPad is a spectacular gaming device, and the new FarmVille app leverages its larger touch screen interface and enhanced graphics. FarmVille on the iPhone was an instant hit and now we are giving people another Apple device to play on.”
The FarmVille app for the iPhone launched in the App Store on June 24, and has spent more than 50 days in the Top 25 games on iTunes. Currently, there are players in 85 different countries playing FarmVille for iPhone and more than 100,000 gifts are sent each day. More than 60 million people across the world play FarmVille, roughly one percent of the global population.
FarmVille on iPad features custom graphics built specifically for the larger iPad. Similar to FarmVille on iPhone, the iPad app takes advantage of the touch screen interface, allowing players to interact with their farms in a new way. By swiping a finger or double-tapping to zoom in and out, players can view their farms, harvest crops or drive tractors. iPad users will be alerted to the status of their crops and farm through push notifications.
Zynga’s catalog of iPhone and iPod touch games also includes Scramble: Challenge Edition, Live Poker, Mafia Wars, Vampires: Bloodlust, and Street Racing.
