Macromedia Names Stephen Elop as Chief Operating Officer; Core Leadership Team Broadens with New Marketing and Sales Executives

SAN FRANCISCO--()--July 28, 2004--Macromedia (Nasdaq:MACR) today announced that Stephen Elop, formerly executive vice president of worldwide field operations, has been named chief operating officer. He will be responsible for executing on Macromedia's growth opportunities across its designer/developer, business user, and consumer markets.

As executive vice president of worldwide field operations at Macromedia, Elop was responsible for Macromedia's sales, operations, and services functions. Prior to that, Elop was responsible for the application of web and Internet technologies to Macromedia's business practices, including the company website, corporate systems, and supporting technical infrastructure. He previously worked as senior vice president of systems and CIO for Boston Chicken, Inc. He also served as director of Lotus Development Corporation's Consulting Services Group, with responsibility for Canada and the Midwestern United States.

New Senior Executives Bhagat and Hunt Join Executive Team

Macromedia today also announced the appointment of two new executives. Nancy Bhagat will serve as senior vice president of corporate marketing and communications. Bhagat comes to Macromedia from Computer Associates International, where she was senior vice president of global marketing. In addition, the company announced that Don Hunt has been named senior vice president of worldwide sales. Hunt previously served as senior vice president of worldwide operations at Genesys.

Bhagat recently served as senior vice president of global marketing for Computer Associates International, where she managed a global marketing staff of more than 400 people. She was the chief marketing officer at CA, responsible for the rebranding and repositioning of the company. Bhagat was a member of the executive management team, representing marketing worldwide. She has more than 19 years experience in marketing.

Hunt recently served as senior vice president of worldwide field operations for MatrixOne. Prior to this position, he was senior vice president of worldwide operations for Genesys, where he grew revenues and rebuilt the field organization. Hunt also previously served as: vice president and general manager for North America for Informix; vice president for North America and Latin America for Open Market; and as the director of North American ISVs for Sun Microsystems, Inc. He has more than 23 years experience in sales.
