The CMAR2 project is the final project within TAA's Airfield Safety Enhancement (ASE) Program, a multi-year, more than $400 million initiative designed to modernize the airport's airfield layout and meet the latest Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety standards. Granite has either completed, or has been awarded, every project within the ASE Program.

Granite's scope of work includes modifying taxiways and connector taxiways to current commercial aviation safety standards and relocating and upgrading FAA navigational aids. Granite’s Swan Facility will supply more than 80,000 tons of FAA-specification aggregate and approximately 50,000 tons of FAA-specification asphalt for the project.

"Our long-standing partnership with Tucson Airport Authority and extensive experience delivering complex airfield infrastructure projects position us well to successfully complete the final phase of the Airfield Safety Enhancement Program," said Granite Regional VP Derek Betts. "This project requires close coordination with ongoing airport operations and will enhance airfield safety while supporting the long-term needs of commercial, military, and general aviation users at Tucson International Airport."

“Our experience at Tucson International Airport with Granite has been superb,” said TAA President and CEO Danette Bewley. “They have delivered on the project to date. Obviously, we still have more to do, but I have high expectations that they'll continue to deliver the way they have for the last several years.”

Preconstruction activities began in September 2026, and overall project completion is anticipated in 2029.
