Credo and Oracle Advance Optical Transceiver Telemetry Standardization with OCP Community

OCP Approves Two New Specifications Developed by Credo- and Oracle-Led Optics Reliability Workstream Formed to Bring Consistent Telemetry Across Vendors and Form Factors

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd (Credo) (NASDAQ: CRDO), an innovator in providing connectivity at scale through fast, reliable, and energy-efficient system solutions, and Oracle, today announced that the Open Compute Project (OCP) Community has approved two new contributions aimed at bringing enhanced telemetry to optical transceivers. The specifications were developed through the OCP Networking Project in the Optics Reliability Workstream, led by Chris Collins of Credo and Steve Manley of Oracle, to establish a common, standardized framework for optical telemetry that helps bring up AI fabrics faster and keep them running longer by minimizing network disruptions.

"We're grateful for the collaboration with Oracle and the broader OCP Community whose contributions helped shape the approved specifications that the entire industry can build on," said Chris Collins, AVP of Sales and Optical Product Marketing at Credo.

News Highlights:

  • OCP has approved two new contributions developed through the Credo- and Oracle-led Optics Reliability Workstream.
  • The workstream, established within OCP's Networking Project in January 2026 and led by Chris Collins of Credo and Steve Manley of Oracle, solicited input from across the OCP Community to converge on the resulting specifications.
  • The approved specifications define an open, interoperable standard for optical transceivers and hosts to coordinate out-of-band communication.
  • The specifications enable transceivers and hosts to share L1 telemetry, compute a common link-health metric, log significant link events, and support automated responses that prevent, localize, and remediate link flaps.

As AI infrastructure scales to clusters with hundreds of thousands of optical links, even brief link disruptions can stall training runs and degrade cluster returns. Credo and Oracle established the Optics Reliability Workstream, within OCP's Networking Project, in January 2026 to define a common software interface for compliant transceivers to report enhanced telemetry. Credo contributed its ZeroFlap host specification as the technical foundation for this effort, and the working group solicited input from across the OCP Community to converge on the resulting specifications.

Together, the two specifications standardize how optical transceivers and hosts exchange link-health information. The Enhanced Telemetry Optics Product Software Specification enables transceivers and hosts to share Layer 1 (L1) telemetry, compute a common link-health metric, log significant link events, and support configurable, automated responses that help prevent, localize, and remediate link flaps. The Transparent Remote Optical Transceiver Messaging with ePPS Design Specification defines an open, interoperable standard for optical DSPs to coordinate out-of-band communication across a live link without affecting traffic, making it a key component of the Enhanced Telemetry Optics Product Specification.

“Enhanced telemetry turns optical transceivers into intelligent diagnostic endpoints, giving operators the information they need to address optical link flaps,” said Chris Collins, Associate Vice President of Sales and Optical Product Marketing at Credo. “As AI fabrics grow to span more endpoints with less direct access and higher costs for every disruption, that clarity is critical. We're grateful for the collaboration with Oracle and the broader OCP Community whose contributions helped shape the approved specifications that the entire industry can build on.”

“Reliable, explainable optical connectivity is foundational to operating AI infrastructure at scale,” said Steve Manley, Senior Principal Network Engineer at Oracle. “Working alongside Credo to establish the Optics Reliability Workstream allowed us to bring broad community input together and converge on open specifications that give operators real visibility into link health. These approved specifications mark meaningful progress toward reducing network disruptions across the industry.”

“Open specifications play a critical role in enabling interoperability and reducing complexity across modern infrastructure,” said James Kelly, Vice President Market Intelligence and Innovation at OCP Foundation. “The Optics Reliability Workstream has brought together industry leaders to develop specifications that address the growing need for consistent optical telemetry and operational visibility. The true impact of these specifications will come through ecosystem adoption, and we look forward to seeing that momentum build.”
