Erie County and e2Companies to Install 1 MW On-Site Power System at Buffalo Convention Center to Expand Energy Resiliency

e2’s Virtual Utility® will strengthen reliability, support economic activity, and enhance emergency preparedness.

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--e2Companies (“e2”), a leading developer of power infrastructure for data centers and other mission-critical facilities, today announced its partnership with Erie County to deploy its Virtual Utility® platform at the Buffalo Convention Center, advancing the County's long-term strategy to modernize critical public infrastructure and strengthen energy resilience across Western New York.

The project builds on the successful deployment of e2’s Virtual Utility® at the Edward A. Rath County Office Building and represents another milestone in Erie County's Microgrid and Resiliency Solutions initiative to improve reliability, reduce operational risk, and prepare essential public facilities for future energy demands.

Hosting nearly 200,000 visitors annually and generating more than $27.7 million in annual economic impact, the Buffalo Convention Center is both a major tourism destination and an important emergency response facility for the region.

To strengthen the facility's resiliency, e2 will install a 1-megawatt (MW) R3Di® System that delivers conditioned on-site power to support operations during utility outages and power quality events. The system will be managed through Grove365®, e2’s intelligent energy platform that continuously optimizes performance in response to grid conditions, facility demand and dynamic load profiles.

"Communities across the country are rethinking how critical facilities are powered," said James Richmond, CEO and Founder of e2. "The Buffalo Convention Center demonstrates how resilient, on-site energy can protect essential community assets while supporting economic activity and emergency preparedness."

Jeffrey Bonerb, Vice President of Strategic Business Partnerships at e2, added, "The Convention Center previously had emergency backup power, but it only supported a portion of the building. The R3Di® System transforms that approach by providing resilient, conditioned power for the entire facility, helping ensure continuity of operations during grid disruptions while modernizing the building's electrical infrastructure."

Patrick Kaler, President and CEO of Visit Buffalo Niagara, said, "The Buffalo Convention Center is one of our region's most important economic engines. This investment strengthens our ability to host events, support tourism, and serve the community during emergencies."

The installation will significantly enhance the Convention Center's electrical resiliency, replacing a limited emergency backup approach with an intelligent on-site power solution that supports continuous operations while modernizing the facility's infrastructure.

Together with the Edward A. Rath County Office Building project, the Buffalo Convention Center installation reflects Erie County's long-term commitment to building more resilient public infrastructure and positions Western New York as a leader in innovative energy resilience solutions.
