Avantus Appoints Kim Anderson as CFO to Support Continued Growth as an Independent Power Producer

New CFO brings a proven track record of financial leadership to Avantus as it scales clean energy delivery across California and Desert Southwest

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Avantus, a leading developer, owner and operator of utility-scale solar and storage projects, today announced the appointment of Kim Anderson as Chief Financial Officer. Anderson will oversee financial strategy and help scale the company's operating platform alongside its development portfolio, as Avantus grows its role as an independent power producer (IPP).

Anderson brings over 25 years of experience across energy, power and infrastructure in public and private markets, including three prior CFO roles and a track record of executing more than $10 billion in M&A and financing transactions. Her experience spans financial strategy, capital allocation, business transformation and partnering with executive teams to navigate periods of significant growth and change. Most recently, she served as CFO of Heartland Generation, a 2.8-gigawatt (GW) independent power producer, where she established the company's finance function, played a central role in its strategic transformation under Energy Capital Partners' ownership, and led its successful sale to TransAlta in 2024.

“Kim brings deep energy experience and the proven financial leadership Avantus will need to support our growth as an independent power producer,” said Cliff Graham, Chief Executive Officer of Avantus. “Her record of building and scaling finance organizations and guiding energy companies through periods of transformation will be invaluable as we expand our operating platform and create long-term value for Avantus and our partners.”

“Avantus has established a strong platform and an exceptional portfolio of opportunities, well positioned to capitalize on growing demand for reliable and affordable power across the West,” said Kim Anderson. “I’m excited to work alongside the Avantus team and our sponsors, KKR and EIG, as the company evolves into a leading independent power producer, and to help scale the capabilities needed to support its next phase of growth.”

Anderson joins Avantus as the company continues its transition from a pure development platform to an owner-operator, supported by KKR's majority equity investment in 2024. Earlier this year, Avantus brought online its first owned asset, with more than a gigawatt of solar and storage currently under construction.

Avantus recently closed a $1.05 billion corporate credit facility, reflecting strong investor confidence, as it advances a development pipeline totaling 24 GW of system capacity, including 13 GW of solar integrated with 44 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of storage, across California and the Desert Southwest.
