Diligent Launches BIS50 Ownership Intelligence Dataset to Help Organizations Uncover Hidden Compliance Risks

The latest dataset reflects Diligent’s investment in combining AI-driven research with human expertise to identify emerging risks, streamline compliance and enable compliance and third-party risk leaders to make more confident decisions

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Diligent, the AI leader in governance, risk and compliance (GRC) solutions, today announced the launch of its proprietary BIS50 dataset. Combining AI-driven research with human expertise, the BIS50 dataset turns fragmented, publicly available ownership information into structured, validated intelligence to help organizations identify potential ownership exposure, reduce manual effort and prepare for the anticipated reinstatement of the Bureau of Industry and Security’s (BIS) 50% Affiliates Rule.

Understanding who sits behind a business is becoming increasingly important and complex. Traditional screening tools don't always reveal the ownership relationships that can create significant compliance exposure.

“Understanding who sits behind a business is becoming increasingly important and complex. Traditional screening tools don't always reveal the ownership relationships that can create significant compliance exposure," said Adam Bailey, General Manager, Data & Platform at Diligent. "With our BIS50 dataset, we're combining AI-powered research with human expertise to turn fragmented ownership information into actionable intelligence. It's part of our broader investment in helping customers uncover hidden risks, reduce manual effort and make better-informed decisions."

The BIS50 dataset combines AI-powered research with rigorous human validation to map direct, indirect and aggregate ownership, helping organizations identify entities that may meet the 50% ownership threshold under the anticipated BIS Affiliates Rule. Covering more than 10,500 records globally, the dataset traces relationships across shareholders, ultimate beneficial owners, subsidiaries and affiliates using verifiable sources, with AI-powered research identifying relevant sources, ownership and affiliation links. Records are then reviewed by data experts before release, combining the speed and scale of AI with human oversight. Each record includes source references, while changes and data-quality decisions are documented with dated rationales to ensure traceability. The dataset is updated bi-weekly to reflect changes in BIS listings and ownership relationships.

The dataset is the latest addition to Diligent’s risk intelligence portfolio, which is now available via Snowflake, giving organizations a flexible way to bring targeted compliance intelligence into existing workflows without replacing their current screening stack. Diligent’s risk intelligence brings together automated media screening and continuous monitoring with proprietary compliance lists, including BIS50, politically exposed persons (PEP), sanctions, watch and blacklists, state-owned enterprises (SOE), and Ownership & Affiliation Network (OAN) datasets.
