Goodwin Launches AI Governance Benchmark in Claude for Legal

Assessment tool lets legal teams see their AI governance gaps and decide what to address first

NEW YORK & LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Global law firm Goodwin today announced that its AI Governance Benchmark is now available within Claude for Legal, as part of Anthropic’s new gallery of ready-to-use artifacts. Created by Goodwin and built in Claude, the Benchmark helps users assess and optimize their approach to AI governance.

The Benchmark is based on the Health Check component of Goodwin’s recently launched AI Governance program, which helps companies, boards, and private equity sponsors govern AI use, adopt it faster, and keep pace as technology and regulation change. Beyond the Health Check, the program also includes tailored readiness materials and the AI Decision Desk, an annual subscription that provides legal answers and real-time monitoring of AI regulation, enforcement, and market practice.

“You cannot fix an AI governance gap you cannot see. The AI Governance Benchmark, built in Claude and grounded in Goodwin’s expertise, puts our Health Check directly into companies’ hands, helping legal teams assess their governance needs so they can so they can accelerate AI adoption,” said Gary Sangha, Director of AI Product and Platforms at Goodwin.

Within Claude for Legal, users are prompted with a short set of questions related to their organization’s AI use and governance. The Benchmark then returns a check of where a user’s approach to AI governance stands, including any gaps and which areas to address first. From there, a user can choose to connect with Goodwin for further support.

“Legal teams are being asked to move fast on AI, and governance shouldn’t be what holds them back,” said Kaitlin Betancourt, Co-Chair of Goodwin’s AI Practice. “In about five minutes, the Benchmark provides a clear view of a company’s AI governance and where the most critical needs lie, so the business can keep moving and has a clear starting point if it wants to go deeper with us.”

“Law firms know what good practice looks like, and Claude for Legal is most powerful when that first-hand experience is built into it,” said Robert Mahari, Head of Claude for Legal at Anthropic. “Goodwin’s AI Governance Benchmark gives legal teams a practical way to evaluate their AI governance and get guidance on what to tackle next.”

Goodwin’s AI practice advises companies, startups, and investors on AI governance, intellectual property, and data and cybersecurity risk. Inside the firm, Goodwin is redesigning how legal work gets done, anchored by its Regina OS proprietary platform. The firm is building the next operating model for legal services: one designed by its lawyers, powered by technology, and focused on better client outcomes.
