Mirantis Provides Private Cloud Alternative to VMware Built on Open Infrastructure Technologies

Helps organizations execute migration off VMware, ahead of contract renewals while preserving existing hardware

CAMPBELL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mirantis, delivering open, standards based infrastructure for the next generation of AI clouds, today announced an enterprise virtualization offer built for enterprise IT teams looking to transition VMware workloads to Mirantis’s OpenStack-based private cloud ahead of rising VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) renewal costs.

The offer combines Mirantis OpenStack for Kubernetes (MOSK), implementation and migration services, and managed operations that provides a migration path off VMware – with eligible customers receiving free migration and implementation, as well as multi-year pricing. The Mirantis offer preserves existing hardware and SAN investments, and delivers reliable, ongoing Day-2 operations backed by up to a 99.99% uptime service level (SLA).

“For organizations facing a VMware renewal, replacing the private cloud is only part of the decision,” said Dom Wilde, senior vice president, Mirantis. “They must also assess existing servers, storage and networking, then move the workloads, and establish a reliable operating model. With our offer, we meld those requirements by helping customers evaluate which infrastructure can be retained, how to move workloads on a timeline that is aligned with their renewal, and then manage operations on a continuing basis.”

A leading cloud infrastructure provider facing a 600% VMware price increase has a migration project underway with Mirantis that involves three data center sites.

For each project, Mirantis assesses the specific customer environment and designs the deployment around compatible compute, storage and network resources. That approach helps organizations retain bare-metal servers, SAN investments and network fabrics instead of requiring all new hardware.

The enterprise virtualization offer includes:

  • MOSK, a private cloud product built on top of open infrastructure technologies, like OpenStack and Kubernetes;
  • Implementation and Migration Services — A packaged migration module, typically five weeks, scoped to each environment during discovery, to assess existing IT infrastructure, establish the new design and implementation guide, and execute workload migration;
  • OpsCare Plus — 24/7 managed operations with an up to 99.99% uptime SLA;
  • Incentive Promotion — Mirantis has heavily invested in tooling to facilitate migration off VMware so that it can offer eligible customers a complementary 2-day architecture discovery workshop, free implementation and free full migration, minimizing VMware migration risk.
