Premier’s AI-First Supply Chain and Quality Intelligence Products Enter Real-World Member Workflows

Six months after announcing its multi-year technology investment, Premier moves from promise to proof, as health systems begin using and refining AI-enabled capabilities ahead of broader availability.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--At its 2026 Breakthroughs Conference, Premier’s President and CEO, Dr. Emad Rizk, unveiled live, in-workflow demonstrations of the company’s AI-enabled technologies. The technologies, co-developed directly with health systems, are moving into real-world use ahead of planned 2027 availability.

"Healthcare leaders don't need more potential. They need something that works, right now, in their workflows. That's the standard we set and the one we intend to keep raising." - Dr. Emad Rizk, President and CEO of Premier

“Our ambition is clear: Help healthcare organizations take 2 to 5 percent of operating cost out, give leaders quality intelligence to make better decisions across the continuum of care, and prepare for a future defined by greater risk and changing reimbursement,” said Dr. Rizk. “Delivering on that ambition requires an advanced technology backbone, one that quickly turns potential into proof for our members. These innovations demonstrate that we are executing against that agenda, solving the problems our members face today while building the foundation for what comes next.”

The demonstrations showcased:

  • Supply Chain Intelligence to identify and prioritize savings opportunities, surface the drivers behind purchasing performance and help teams take action. The technology is currently being leveraged and refined by daily work across 25 provider health systems for immediate savings.
  • Quality and Performance, which combines numerous point solutions for a singular view into quality measures, benchmarks, performance insights and improvement workflows. The technology is currently being leveraged in daily work across three different health systems, with 200 additional hospitals providing feedback on more than 150 KPIs with AI-recommended actions for improvement.

Supply Chain Intelligence: Concept to Deployment in Six Months

Supply Chain Intelligence transforms how health systems identify, prioritize and act on opportunities across purchasing and supplier relationships.

In a live Breakthroughs demonstration, Premier showed how a user can ask a proprietary agent why spending in a category is increasing and immediately receive an explanation based on purchasing behavior, pricing and product mix. Users can then move directly into prioritized opportunities, including rebate opportunities and product conversions, with the information needed to engage physicians and other stakeholders.

“In a market that’s been comfortable selling potential instead of proof, we delivered real products that solve real problems to real users,” said Rizk. “Healthcare leaders don't need more potential. They need something that works, right now, in their workflows. That's the standard we set and the one we intend to keep raising.”

New capabilities demonstrated include the ability to:

  • Surface prioritized actions most likely to move performance.
  • Ask questions in natural language and get an immediate answer on what's driving spend.
  • Bring clinical and purchasing context together in one place to support informed conversations.
  • Move from identifying an opportunity to acting on it without leaving the workflow.
  • Align facility eligibility and contract pricing across trading partners.
  • Monitor realized performance and flag where expected savings aren't materializing.

The technology has been developed with end users and is targeted for general availability in 2027.

Quality and Performance: Turning Fragmented Quality Intelligence into an AI-Enabled Improvement Workflow

For decades, Premier has worked with health systems to improve quality, safety and clinical outcomes. The new Quality and Performance experience brings those capabilities together in a single application, incorporating risk-adjusted outcomes, quality rating KPIs, benchmarks and other performance intelligence together with AI-enabled workflows designed to help teams move from identifying a gap to taking action.

“With this modernization, Premier is enabling us to quickly identify the root causes of quality and outcomes performance and turn insight into action,” said Donna Sabol, Chief Quality Officer at St. Luke’s University Health Network. “That’s a game changer. Instead of having my analytics team spend their time building reports and drilling into data, I can deploy them alongside care teams using real-time insights to share knowledge, solve problems and improve performance.”

During the Breakthroughs demonstration, health systems saw how the application:

  • Builds customized executive views around their facilities, goals and priority measures.
  • Brings multiple quality measures and benchmarks into a single workflow, replacing tools that currently live in silos.
  • Shows exactly how far performance is from a target, performance tier or peer group.
  • Identifies the facilities and service lines driving system-level performance.
  • Delivers evidence-based recommendations based on performance trends, benchmarks and goals.
  • Assigns actions directly and tracks whether the interventions worked.
  • Uses AI-generated recommendations to surface the next best action, not just the last report.

The Quality and Performance application is targeted for general availability in January 2027.
