GetWyz Launches on iOS and Web to Help First-Time Homebuyers Plan for Homeownership

New platform from the founder of MoneyGuide shows aspiring buyers when they'll be ready to buy and whether they can afford life after they do

RICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GetWyz, a free homeownership planning platform for first-time buyers, today announced its launch on the Apple App Store and the web. Founded by Bob Curtis, creator of the financial planning software MoneyGuide, GetWyz shows aspiring buyers when they'll be financially ready to buy a home, models the loan that best fits them, and makes sure they can still afford their lives after closing.

GetWyz, a new app designed to help first-time buyers navigate the path to homeownership, officially launches today on iOS and the web.

The launch comes as Americans wait longer than ever to buy their first home. According to the National Association of Realtors' 2025 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, the median first-time buyer has reached a record high of 40 years old, while first-time buyers made up a record-low 21% of purchases.

“There's a narrative that the housing market has put homeownership out of reach for millennials and Gen Z, but market conditions are only part of the story,” said Bob Curtis, CEO and founder of GetWyz. “People get plenty of help planning for retirement, but almost nobody helps them plan for a home. That's why I built GetWyz.”

Most homebuying calculators only tell people the maximum home price they can afford, but don’t take into account future life changes. GetWyz looks ahead, projecting each user’s income, expenses and goals across a range of scenarios to help them plan for sustainable homeownership. The result is their HomeOwner Day: the earliest month and year they could buy a home that fits their broader financial picture, with room in the budget for future goals, life events and unexpected expenses. If they’re not on track, GetWyz shows them strategies to help them get there.

Those strategies include weighing points against a larger down payment and tapping retirement savings by redirecting 401(k) contributions, taking a 401(k) loan, or making an IRA withdrawal. With GetWyz’s PlayPlan, an interactive financial simulation feature, users can turn strategies on or off, adjust the home price, or make other changes and see how each affects their HomeOwner Day.

“Homeownership has long been overshadowed by retirement in the financial planning industry," continued Curtis. "People are told to put every extra dollar into their retirement accounts, without ever being asked what they want that money to do for them. If owning a home is one of their goals, it deserves a plan too, and that's what GetWyz builds.”

GetWyz also explains how a mortgage works using each user's own numbers. By the time they're ready to shop, users know what to expect, which makes them more confident buyers and better-prepared clients for the real estate agents they work with.

Behind it all is WyzCalc, GetWyz's proprietary optimization engine, backed by financial planning and homebuying experts. GetWyz uses AI to improve the experience but keeps it out of affordability calculations and recommendations, where human judgment matters most.

GetWyz is available now at getwyz.com and on the Apple App Store, with an Android app planned for 2027.
