TurningPoint Energy Launches Energy Storage Community Support Program

New initiative provides $100,000 per project to support community readiness for energy storage investments needed to curb rising electricity prices.

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TurningPoint Energy (“TPE”) today announced the launch of its Energy Storage Community Support Program, a new initiative designed to help communities prepare for the growing adoption of battery energy storage technologies by providing dedicated funding to local emergency service providers.

Through the program, TPE will commit $100,000 for each community hosting a battery energy storage system (BESS) developed by TPE to support emergency preparedness, training, equipment, public safety initiatives, and other community-identified priorities.

Battery technologies are already part of daily life, powering electric vehicles, home energy systems, e-bikes, power tools, and countless other applications. As energy storage becomes more widespread, communities are increasingly seeking resources and information to better understand these technologies and their role in the evolving energy landscape.

At the same time, grid-scale energy storage projects are being developed across Illinois to strengthen grid reliability and to combat rising electricity prices. With the passage of the Clean and Reliable Grid Affordability Act in 2025, Illinois is positioning energy storage as a key tool for supporting economic growth, meeting future energy needs, and managing rising electricity costs.

"As energy storage technologies become increasingly common in our daily lives, communities and emergency responders deserve access to resources that help them stay ahead of the curve," said Mike Marsch, Vice President of Development at TPE. “The Energy Storage Community Support Program reflects our commitment to being a strong community partner while supporting the safe deployment of modern energy infrastructure.”

TPE developed the Program to help communities build knowledge, capabilities, and confidence as they adapt to evolving energy infrastructure. Funding will become available prior to project construction, enabling emergency service providers and local authorities to begin planning and preparation well before a facility becomes operational.

This new Program builds on TPE's longstanding commitment to community investment. Since its founding in 2014, TPE and its partners have provided more than $6.3 million in community investments to local organizations and nonprofit partners. In Illinois alone, TPE has contributed more than $5.1 million to support a wide range of educational, social service, youth development, and community organizations.
