CoLab Announces New Global Contract With Vestas to Accelerate Supplier Collaboration, a Priority for R&D Transformation

CoLab is chosen as a core solution supporting a Vestas priority to optimize supplier collaboration and efficiency by extending AI-powered design review across Vestas R&D and its supplier network.

ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, CoLab announced its collaboration with Vestas, one of the world's leading wind turbine manufacturers, to transform how engineering reviews are conducted across Vestas R&D and its supplier network.

For global manufacturers like Vestas, critical design and manufacturing expertise is distributed across engineering teams, projects, and suppliers. This can lead to long review cycles on complex parts, where capturing design feedback from all the relevant stakeholders is critical. Vestas is addressing that challenge by creating a more consistent technical review process across its engineering organization, using CoLab to bring models, design context, feedback, and decisions into a common workflow.

Vestas will accelerate supplier review cycles by moving reviews from disconnected markup tools and meetings into Portals, CoLab’s dedicated supplier collaboration workspace. Inside Portals, engineers, suppliers and design partners can exchange feedback directly on 2D and 3D design data, making design intent clear without extended back and forth discussion. This has the added benefit of improving IP security, because engineers collaborate with suppliers on a secure platform, rather than sharing design files across a multi-tiered supply base via emails.

Vestas’ engineering teams are already conducting live model-based design reviews in CoLab as part of the company’s broader effort to standardize MBD practices. As a byproduct of these reviews, Vestas will capture and systemize design rationale, so expert feedback can be used to improve future designs, not just current programs.

Through this collaboration, Vestas is also exploring how CoLab’s AI peer checker, AutoReview, could help scale its design for manufacturing expertise. The work includes evaluating how AI can help apply Vestas’ internal guidelines during design reviews, surfacing DFM feedback automatically. The entire solution is integrated with Vestas’ enterprise product lifecycle management (PLM) system, creating visibility into the entire design history for every part.
