Ryan Establishes Presence in Brazil With Acquisition of Tax Technology Firm Comtax

PLANO, Texas & SÃO PAULO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ryan, a leading global tax services and software provider, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Comtax, a São Paulo-based tax technology and consulting firm specializing in tax determination, tax compliance, and technology-enabled tax operations. The acquisition establishes Ryan’s presence in Brazil and expands the Firm’s ability to help clients manage the country’s demanding tax, compliance, and technology requirements with enhanced accuracy, control, and efficiency.

Founded in 2018 by Marcelo Simões, Gilmar Brandão, and Ricardo Carvalho, Comtax combines deep Brazilian tax knowledge with specialized technology implementation capabilities. The firm serves large-scale businesses across Brazil, helping clients improve tax determination, strengthen compliance, reduce operational risk, and integrate tax processes and solutions into enterprise systems.

Comtax’s capabilities complement Ryan’s global tax and consulting services, including:

  • Digital tax consulting: process assessments, tax mapping, governance, and optimization
  • Tax determination: calculation configuration, rule validation, and transaction testing
  • Tax technology implementation: integration with SAP, Oracle, and other systems
  • Compliance support and tax efficiency: preventive audits, validations, and risk reduction
  • Data and tax-matrix reviews: product classification and supplier and customer validation
  • Tax audit support: digital-file audits, inspections, and compliance support

“This acquisition represents an important step in Ryan’s strategy to expand our capabilities across Latin America,” said Jon Sweet, President of Latin American Operations at Ryan. “Comtax brings a highly experienced team with deep knowledge in one of the region’s most complex tax environments. Their expertise, combined with Ryan’s global scale and broader tax services and software capabilities, gives us a stronger platform to serve clients in Brazil and across the region.”

The acquisition adds an experienced Brazil-based implementation team to Ryan’s global Tax Technology practice, connecting specialized in-market expertise with Ryan’s global resources. Together, the teams will help clients improve compliance, reduce risk, and create greater predictability across tax operations.

“Joining Ryan is an exciting new chapter for our team and our clients,” said Marcelo Simões, Co-Founder of Comtax. “Our organizations share a commitment to excellence and disciplined processes for solving complex tax and technology challenges. With Ryan, we can build on the services our clients trust today while expanding the capabilities available to them.”

Ryan welcomes Marcelo Simões, Gilmar Brandão, and Ricardo Carvalho, along with nearly 70 team members, who will continue serving clients from São Paulo as part of Ryan’s Latin American team.
