Cantor Fitzgerald Asset Management Names Eric Johnston Head of Equities at O’Connor and Chief Market Strategist

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cantor Fitzgerald Asset Management (“CFAM”), the global asset management platform of Cantor Fitzgerald, today announced that Eric Johnston has been appointed Head of Equities, O’Connor and Chief Market Strategist, Cantor Fitzgerald Asset Management.

CFAM manages $32.2 billion in assets, across approximately 70 active strategies spanning traditional markets, real assets, private markets, hedge funds, commodities, private credit, and digital assets. Earlier this year, CFAM closed its acquisition of UBS O’Connor to strengthen its private markets solutions for clients.

As Head of Equities, O’Connor, Mr. Johnston will run O’Connor’s equity long/short strategy, lead the build-out of its equity capital markets franchise, and join O’Connor’s global multi-strategy alpha fund team, as a leading member of its Capital Allocation Committee. As Chief Market Strategist, he will lead CFAM's market outlook and macro investment views for investors and clients, drawing on the intellectual capital across Cantor Fitzgerald to deliver relevant, actionable market insights. Mr. Johnston will report to Bill Ferri, Global Head of Asset Management.

“We believe the current market environment creates a compelling opportunity for a differentiated hedge fund franchise such as O’Connor to deliver for investors,” said Bill Ferri, Global Head of Cantor Fitzgerald Asset Management. “Eric brings an exceptional combination of market insight, experience building hedge fund and equity businesses, and disciplined capital and risk-management expertise. He will be an important leader as we continue to build O’Connor’s equities platform and enhance the investment capabilities we offer clients across CFAM.”

Mr. Johnston joins CFAM from Cantor, where he served as Chief Equity & Macro Strategist and was a senior leader within Equities. Since joining Cantor in 2020, he helped drive the growth of the equity derivatives business and client franchise while providing equity and macro market analysis to clients. Before Cantor, Mr. Johnston was Americas Head of Equity Trading at Deutsche Bank and previously served as Head of Equity Cash Trading at Barclays. He also held buy-side roles as a portfolio manager and business builder at Commonwealth Opportunity Capital and Millennium Partners.
