Indigo Surpasses $20 Million in Premiums and Increases Autonomous Underwriting to 40% of Submissions as AI-Driven Medical Malpractice Platform Scales

Growth for Indigo has been spurred by an expanding curated broker network and industry leading quote turnaround times.

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Indigo, a vertically integrated, AI-driven medical professional liability platform, today announced that it has surpassed $20 million in premiums, doubling the company’s premium volume since announcing its $50 million Series B financing in January. The milestone reflects growing adoption among larger physician groups, continued expansion of Indigo’s curated broker network, and strong underwriting performance as the medical malpractice insurance market faces increasing pressure from rising claim severity and nuclear verdicts.

“Our credibility in the market is compounding as Indigo grows and this milestone is an encouraging proof point for our strategy and underwriting model,” said Jared Kaplan, CEO of Indigo. “Indigo is extremely deliberate in its approach. Automating underwriting in medical malpractice requires deep expertise and an understanding of the nuances that contribute to individual physician or practice risk. With claim severity trending upward, precision in how we assess risk is more important than ever, and it’s clearly an approach that’s resonating with healthcare providers.”

Growth to more than $20 million in premiums has been driven primarily by a strong conversion rate, deeper penetration with larger physician groups, and continued investment in Indigo’s technology-led approach. The milestone comes as physicians and medical groups face a more challenging medical malpractice environment. Incumbent carriers are absorbing adverse development following years of pricing pressure, a cumbersome underwriting process and changes to the landscape with the rise of AI tools in the medical space, while growing claim severity and nuclear verdicts drive cost increases across the market. At the same time, physicians face declining reimbursement and rising malpractice premiums.

Indigo’s technology and underwriting model are designed to address these pressures by assessing risk at the individual physician level rather than relying solely on group-level pricing. This allows lower-risk physicians to be priced according to their individual risk profile rather than subsidizing higher-risk physicians within the same practice.

Its technology-led approach is enabling Indigo to scale efficiently. Roughly 40% of submissions now get an automated decision, more than double last year’s rate, and Indigo’s median quote turnaround is under one business day – days or weeks faster than alternatives in the market. Indigo is on pace to process over 10,000 submissions this year with a team of only 5 underwriters. Underscoring Indigo’s momentum, the company has been named to the 2026 Insurtech 50 – CB Insights’ list of the world’s most promising insurtechs.

“We’re proving that you can build a technology-driven insurance platform without compromising on the fundamentals of underwriting,” added Kaplan. “As we look ahead, our focus is on continuing to scale thoughtfully, continuing to earn the trust of brokers and physicians, and expanding where our technology can create real value.”

Indigo’s next phase of growth will focus on continuing to scale its technology, expanding its product offering, and demonstrating that industry-leading growth can continue without compromising underwriting discipline.
