Samsara MCP Brings Live Operational Context Into the AI Tools Teams Already Use
Customers can now analyze their own Samsara data alongside information from other business systems with existing permissions intact
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Samsara (NYSE: IOT), the pioneer of the Connected Operations® Platform, today announced Samsara MCP (Model Context Protocol), a direct connection that enables customers to bring their Samsara operational data into the AI assistants, agents, and applications of their choosing without requiring a custom integration. Authorized users can analyze live information from their Samsara environment alongside data from other business systems, extending the company’s open platform into customers’ AI workflows.
Since its inception, Samsara has built an open platform that connects physical operations with the systems that run the rest of the business. Its ecosystem of more than 400 integrations, along with APIs and developer tools, lets customers and partners build on that foundation. Built on the same live operational data layer as Samsara Assistant, MCP makes operational data available to customers’ AI tools as Samsara adds capabilities, without requiring customers to rebuild their integrations. Together, MCP and Agent Studio, introduced at Samsara’s Beyond 2026 customer conference, give customers two supported paths for building AI workflows around their operational data: create agents within Samsara or connect their owned Samsara data to their own third-party AI systems to get a more holistic view of their organization.
“Our customers are building AI into more of their business, and decisions in areas like finance and HR need to reflect what’s happening in the field. Samsara provides that operational understanding,” said Brendan O’Driscoll, VP of Platform at Samsara. “With MCP, customers can bring their own Samsara data into the systems and AI tools those teams already use, connecting the work of running their operations with the work of running their business.”
How it works
Customers can now connect their own third-party AI applications to Samsara using their existing credentials, including single sign-on. Access remains limited to their organization and existing permissions, with every request linked to the person making it. If someone cannot see information in Samsara, their connected AI tool cannot access it either.
Once connected, customers can ask questions about their operations directly in Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot or Cursor. More than 40 read-only tools allow these applications to retrieve information about vehicles, drivers, safety events and hours of service without changing records in Samsara. Developers can also incorporate these tools into custom agents.
For more complex questions, customers’ chosen AI application can turn to Samsara Assistant: Samsara’s purpose-built agents perform the analysis within the platform and return an answer to the application, giving customers access to Samsara’s operational expertise from the AI environment they choose.
Operational context across business systems
By connecting Samsara through MCP alongside their other business systems, customers can bring live operational information into decisions across HR, finance and procurement:
- Workforce reporting: HR teams can compare driver hours-of-service records from Samsara with time and attendance information in Workday to flag discrepancies for review.
- Financial analysis: Finance teams can examine mileage, fuel consumption and idle time from Samsara alongside fuel transactions and departmental budgets in their financial systems to explain spending variances and inform forecasts.
- Procurement: Procurement teams can compare equipment utilization from Samsara with rental agreements and renewal dates in their purchasing system to identify underused rentals before extending a contract.
“Samsara is central to how we run our fleet, so connecting it to the AI workflows we’re building is a priority,” said Ken Apple, CTO at Mariner Logistics. “With MCP connections already in place across our other major business systems, we can now bring Samsara’s operational context into those same workflows. That lets our operators focus on solving business problems instead of maintaining yet another custom integration.”
