The partnership is intended to position Phigenics for continued growth through increased investment in new and existing products, as well as expansion into new markets.

Founded in 2004 and headquartered in Warrenville, Ill., Phigenics delivers an integrated, tech-enabled solution that helps healthcare facilities and others mitigate the risk of Legionella and other waterborne pathogen outbreaks. The company operates accredited laboratories to collect and test water samples and offers a proprietary software platform, called phiAnalytics, to help customers implement and monitor sophisticated water-management programs and report results to regulators. Phigenics also offers sensors and related equipment to help with ongoing water monitoring and maintenance.

Currently Phigenics serves more than 250 customer organizations, including major hospital systems, VA facilities and ambulatory surgery centers, where organizations must comply with an increasing number of water-safety standards. The company is also expanding into other industries with critical water safety-management needs, including hospitality and retail.

Battery will partner with Mark Crockett, M.D., who has served as CEO of Phigenics since August 2024, and the existing management team to drive the company's next phase of growth.

“We are incredibly proud of what the Phigenics team has built and the trusted customer relationships we’ve built,” Crockett said. “Partnering with Battery—an experienced investor in our sector—will provide additional resources and expertise to accelerate innovation, expand our capabilities and reach, and help us continue to deliver exceptional value to our clients. Together, we can build on Phigenics’ strong foundation and advance our mission of protecting public health through better water management.”

Battery has been investing in water-related technology businesses for more than two decades, including in companies focused on analytical testing, instrumentation and sensor technologies.

“Because Phigenics covers the full water-safety lifecycle, it stays constantly engaged with its customers and has become an increasingly critical partner as compliance demands, particularly in healthcare, keep growing,” said Battery General Partner Zack Smotherman. “That’s one reason the company was extremely attractive to us.”

“We are excited to partner with Mark and the team and help Phigenics move into its next growth chapter,” added Battery Principal Max Kaye. Both Smotherman and Kaye will join the company's board of directors.
