A Mission-Critical Software Acquisition That Strengthens an Industry Platform
Founded by Dietz and June Nicolay and incorporated in 1996, InterSect Business Systems developed distrib-u-tec in partnership with six food distributors and packers between 1996 and 1999, most of whom remain customers today. Over three decades, distrib-u-tec has grown into a deep, fully integrated ERP and accounting platform spanning sales and order entry, inventory and warehouse management, production, purchasing, and full accounting, purpose-built for the operational realities of food distributors, manufacturers, and processors across North America.
As part of smrtr, and with the long-term backing of Solen Software Group, distrib-u-tec gains a long-term home and the resources to continue investing in the product, service, and team that its customers depend on. Solen's permanent capital model is designed to steward and grow mission-critical software businesses over the long term, keeping decision-making close to customers and the people who serve them.
Continuity for Customers, Backed by Long-Term Stewardship
"distrib-u-tec was built hand in hand with our customers, and that partnership has always been what matters most," said June Nicolay, Founder and President of distrib-u-tec. "In smrtr and Solen we found a partner that shares that philosophy, one committed to supporting our customers and our team for the long term. I am confident the business is in the right hands for its next chapter."
Solen selected distrib-u-tec for its deep domain expertise, loyal customer base, and the essential role its software plays in customers' daily operations, adding it to smrtr's platform within the portfolio. The company's customers, team, and day-to-day contacts remain in place, now supported by an organization purpose-built to invest in the business over the long term.
"distrib-u-tec has spent three decades earning the trust of food distributors, and that is exactly the kind of business we want to grow alongside," said Susanne Moore, Chief Executive Officer of smrtr, Inc. "By welcoming distrib-u-tec into smrtr, we are deepening our commitment to the food and beverage industry, giving customers continuity today, with more resources and expertise behind them for the long term."
Solen's Approach to Mission-Critical Software Growth
"From our first conversations with June, it was clear distrib-u-tec was a business that Solen wanted to partner with," said Will Nouse, Director of M&A, Solen Software Group. "The company's customers trust it with absolutely critical aspects of their operations, from orders to inventory and books. I'm beyond excited to partner with June and give distrib-u-tec a permanent home to keep building the business's legacy."
distrib-u-tec will continue serving its customers with the same team and level of support, now part of smrtr, Inc. within Solen's portfolio and backed by Solen's long-term investment model and resources.
