Sovos Acquires Blue dot, Expanding AI-Native Diagnostics, Workflow, and Intelligence Capabilities, Widening Sovos’ Tax Compliance Platform Technology Lead
Acquisition extends Sovos’ Tax Compliance Platform into Travel & Expense and VAT recovery, accelerates agentic diagnosis roadmap with a decade of production AI, and adds an elite data science team with nearly a decade of enterprise ML experience.
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sovos, the AI-ready tax compliance company, today announced the acquisition of Blue dot, an AI VAT intelligence and recovery platform headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel. The acquisition strengthens Sovos' strategy in three distinct areas:
- A proven VAT reclaim business with enterprise distribution through SAP Concur, further strengthening Sovos’ market leading Indirect Tax Suite
- A production AI platform built on nearly a decade of real-world Machine Learning development in the tax compliance space, bringing differentiated data, models and agentic workflow capabilities to Sovos
- A world-class data science team that will accelerate Sovos’ AI roadmap from day one, bringing nearly a decade of enterprise ML experience
Blue dot brings advanced AI capabilities that automatically cleanse, validate, enrich and contextualize complex travel & expense (T&E) and accounts payable (AP) transaction data. By turning fragmented spend data into precise, tax-ready intelligence, Blue dot helps enterprises identify eligible VAT and maximize recovery while strengthening compliance.
The Compliance Problem Getting Harder to Ignore
As Continuous Transaction Controls (CTC) expand across Europe, Latin America and Asia, tax compliance is moving from periodic reporting toward real-time transaction validation. CTC frameworks require every B2B invoice to clear a government authority in real time before it can move goods, trigger payment, or support a VAT claim. As a result, businesses need to know not only whether a transaction failed, but why it failed, which upstream business process caused the error and how to prevent it from recurring. This is the diagnosis problem where Blue dot's technology gives Sovos a significant advantage.
Expanding the Tax Compliance Platform into VAT Recovery
Blue dot's core business is enterprise VAT recovery across Travel & Expense (T&E) and Accounts Payable (AP). Its platform uses AI to extract, cleanse, validate, enrich and contextualize transaction data across invoices, receipts, and expense reports. Agents turn fragmented spend data into clean, tax-ready intelligence that helps enterprises identify eligible VAT and maximize legitimate recovery while strengthening compliance.
Blue dot serves hundreds of enterprise customers globally across banking and finance, consumer goods, retail and manufacturing, and has achieved SAP Concur Endorsed App status. The platform has demonstrated greater than 98% accuracy across VAT and taxable employee benefits lifecycles, with a five-year average customer tenure and approximately 99% recurring revenue.
Accelerating AI Across the Sovos Platform
Sovos has spent two decades building trusted tax compliance infrastructure, connecting businesses to governments and embedding compliant tax workflows into the enterprise systems where transactions originate. With the launch of Sovos Intelligence earlier this summer, Sovos introduced an intelligence layer that brings AI-powered insight to the transaction level.
Blue dot extends that capability upstream, using AI to transform fragmented transaction data into clean, contextualized data for better tax decisions. Its platform includes more than 150 purpose-built AI models, a real-time orchestration engine, a transaction Knowledge Graph and agentic capabilities designed to automate document ingestion, reconciliation and compliance operations.
Sovos intends to embed Blue dot's AI into its compliance transaction flow, accelerating its diagnosis capabilities toward a system that not only identifies which rule failed, but explains why the underlying business event was wrong and what needs to change upstream to prevent it from recurring.
The acquisition also strengthens Sovos’ ability to prepare customers for ViDA and evolving CTC mandates. Blue dot’s AI will reconcile structured B2B invoices that increasingly move through regulated channels with employee expenses and corporate card transactions that originate at the point of sale. This will help Sovos customers prevent duplicate or inconsistent VAT reporting while connecting the full transaction picture to the compliance network.
“Blue dot has built something genuinely rare — an AI engine purpose-built to understand the complexity and context hidden inside enterprise transaction data,” said Kevin Akeroyd, CEO, Sovos. “Its combination of tax intelligence and agentic technology gives us a powerful foundation to accelerate our broader AI strategy. Just as importantly, we are adding a talented team that has spent nearly a decade building AI in production at enterprise scale.”
World-Class AI Talent
Blue dot’s data science and engineering teams will join Sovos’ product and technology organization, bringing nearly a decade of production AI and machine learning experience built on real enterprise transaction data, at real scale and across real jurisdictions. The team of engineers and data scientists brings deep expertise in building, training and deploying AI and machine learning for complex tax and transaction data.
