Skillsoft LX Design Studio Reduces Custom Learning Content Development from Weeks to Days

New AI content creation capabilities within the Skillsoft Platform help organizations develop expert content at enterprise scale

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Skillsoft® (NYSE: SKIL), a leading AI-native skills management platform, today announced the general availability of LX Design Studio®, an AI content creation capability that reduces the time required to build custom learning content by up to 85%.* This adds AI content creation to Skillsoft’s skills management platform, helping organizations turn their expertise into customized learning at the speed and scale that modern work demands.

Traditional custom course development typically takes over two weeks and can cost $10,000 to $50,000 or more per course. In early adopter testing, users produced content using LX Design Studio in three to five days. In addition, 80% of beta customers were able to design and publish custom AI conversation simulations (CAISY®) in about 15 minutes.*

Every organization needs learning that reflects their specific business context, such as internal processes, proprietary systems, product knowledge, and role-specific workflows. Traditional custom content creation, however, is often slow, costly, and disconnected from the platforms where learning occurs. The demand for custom learning content is increasing faster than learning and development (L&D) teams can keep up. LX Design Studio closes this gap.

With LX Design Studio, organizations can create expert-quality, organization-specific learning in days rather than weeks, helping L&D teams respond more quickly to changing business needs.

"Custom content is one of the most powerful ways to make learning more relevant, valuable, and connected to how an organization actually works," said Bernard Barbour, chief technology and product officer at Skillsoft. " LX Design Studio helps users create that content faster and with greater confidence. And as part of the Skillsoft platform, which delivers the capabilities needed for a Skills Supply Chain™, it helps ensure it delivers the intended knowledge, skills, and business outcomes."

With LX Design Studio, creators do not need deep instructional design expertise to build custom learning. Starting from an idea, an AI design agent creates a design brief and directs creators to the right tool, such as a full course, presentation practice, a CAISY conversation simulation or a skill assessment. Organizations can create learning from their own knowledge sources, adapt existing Skillsoft content to their business context, or build experiences from scratch, giving them the flexibility to combine trusted content with their own expertise. The resulting experiences connect automatically to their skills framework.

LX Design Studio also gives organizations governance and control: customer IP stays owned by the customer, remains private to their organization and is not used to train external AI models.

“When we invest in innovative learning experiences, we invest in our people and their growth,” said Claudia Eftimie, vice president of talent and development at FirstService Residential. “Now that we can build highly personalized coaching experiences at scale with Skillsoft LX Design Studio, we expect to see significant gains in leadership capability, stronger associate engagement and a workforce that is better prepared to meet the evolving needs of our business.”

* The “up to 86%” figure compares the shortest observed development time of three days during Skillsoft early-adopter testing with an industry benchmark of 2.875 weeks, or 20.125 days, for comparable Level 2 interactive e-learning content, representing an 86% reduction in elapsed development time. The development period and estimated cost of $10,000 to $50,000 or more per course are based on ATD industry research and production vendor estimates. Skillsoft early adopter testing conducted from February through June 2026 found that participating users produced qualifying content in three to five days and that participating customers designed and published a defined custom CAISY experience in approximately 15 minutes under the applicable test conditions.
