Workato Opens National Office and Data Center in South Korea to Support Customers and Partners in AI Adoption

As Korea's AI Basic Act takes effect, the move gives Korean enterprises and partners a way to close the gap between AI adoption and legacy systems

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Workato®, the leading Control and Execution Platform for Enterprise AI, today announced an expansion into the Korean market, including a local office and dedicated team, a new local data center, and continued investment in its Korean partner ecosystem. The expansion helps Korean enterprises connect fast-growing AI adoption to complex legacy IT environments while satisfying Korea's new AI Basic Act governance requirements.

Korea has moved past AI pilots faster than almost any market: it is already the second-largest market for paid ChatGPT subscriptions globally, trailing only the United States, according to OpenAI data reported by Reuters, and Claude usage runs at more than 3.5 times what population size alone would predict, according to Anthropic.

That adoption is colliding with some of the most complex legacy environments anywhere. Korea's largest manufacturers run decades-old ERP, manufacturing execution systems (MES), and groupware systems, deeply interlinked across dozens of formally separate but operationally connected affiliates under each parent company, so the integration challenge multiplies by the number of affiliates, not just by company size. Many Korean enterprises have already tried to solve this with do-it-yourself frameworks that wire AI into legacy systems. Those frameworks work as a proof of concept, but break down at enterprise scale, where every connector has to be hand-built and has no governance trail. Optimized for the Korean business environment, Workato closes that gap and turns AI output into an automated, governed action inside the ERP, MES, or CRM a company already uses.

Korea raised the stakes on that same governance question when its AI Basic Act entered full enforcement, according to Pebblous and SafeAI for Business. Operators of high-impact AI must now keep a five-year safety-reliability document explaining both the AI and the data it was trained on, an obligation that extends to internal AI tools affecting decisions about employees in Korea. Recording what an AI system did inside the business is now a legal requirement, and it is exactly the kind of governed, auditable action Workato is built to produce.

“Every customer we work with in Korea is trying to do the same thing: turn an AI recommendation into something their ERP, MES, or CRM system actually executes, with a governance trail behind it,” said Vijay Tella, CEO and Co-founder at Workato. “In contact centers, that means connecting AI-generated recommendations directly to the systems agents use, so a suggested action becomes a completed task. In manufacturing, it means bridging legacy ERP, MES, and shop-floor systems with newly deployed AI tools, so AI output triggers the next step automatically and reliably. Having our own office, data center, and partners in Korea means we can help customers move at that same speed, instead of asking them to slow down and wait for us.”

“With Workato, our developers are now at least 50% more productive. In some cases, we've seen speed gains of up to 90%,” said Chris Jang, Infra Leader at Krafton. “Best of all, our team is happier doing the work.”
