VDURA Powers AI and HPC Research at New Mexico State University with Data Platform Deployment

Installation at one of America's newest R1 universities builds on the VDURA and NMSU post-quantum cryptography partnership, delivering a production-hardened data foundation for AI training, simulation and data-intensive science.

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--VDURA, a leader in high-performance data storage infrastructure, and New Mexico State University (NMSU) today announced that NMSU's new VDURA deployment is complete and in full production. The system, live as of August 2026, provides the university's research community with a high-performance, highly durable data platform purpose-built for AI and high-performance computing workloads.

"This deployment gives NMSU researchers more results per compute hour and a platform that's production-hardened for environments where failure is not an option. We're proud to power discovery at one of the nation's newest R1 institutions."

NMSU, which achieved Carnegie R1 status in 2025, placing it among the top research universities in the United States, supports more than $141 million in annual research expenditures across fields including aerospace, agriculture, cybersecurity, water science and biomedical research. The VDURA Data Platform now anchors high-performance computing within NMSU's Research Cores Program, the university's network of shared research facilities, instrumentation and computational resources, accelerating everything from AI model training to large-scale simulation.

The deployment combines NVMe flash and high-density HDD capacity in VDURA's mixed-fleet architecture, delivering flash-level responsiveness for active research data alongside economical bulk capacity, all in a single namespace on the university's InfiniBand fabric. With VDURA's software-defined architecture and subscription model, NMSU can scale capacity and performance as research demands grow.

"Universities like NMSU are where the next generation of AI and HPC breakthroughs will happen, and those breakthroughs depend on data infrastructure that never gets in the way," said Steve Lebowitz, Senior Solution Engineer, VDURA. "This deployment gives NMSU researchers more results per compute hour and a platform that's production-hardened for environments where failure is not an option. We're proud to power discovery at one of the nation's newest R1 institutions."

The installation deepens a relationship announced in August 2025, when VDURA and NMSU formed a strategic partnership to co-develop and commercialize post-quantum cryptographic (PQC) technology that protects the petabyte-scale data pipelines behind AI and HPC. With the new system in production, NMSU now runs its research workloads on the same platform architecture at the center of that collaboration.

"Partnering with the NMSU Vision Team and the Research Cores Program allows us to deliver a world-class VDURA data storage solution to campus. This facility will ensure NMSU researchers continue to push boundaries in areas vital to New Mexico’s growth and economic future," said Amy Wagler, Director of Research Computing and Data Science, New Mexico State University.
