PowerSchool Strengthens Global Privacy Posture with Independent Certifications, Validations, and Updated Global Privacy Statement

Company announces third-party privacy certifications from TrustArc, PRIVO, and 1EdTech to reinforce its commitment to responsible data stewardship

PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PowerSchool, a leading provider of cloud-based software for K-12 education, today announced an expanded set of independent privacy certifications and validations that reinforce its commitment to responsible data stewardship and global privacy compliance. The company announced privacy certifications and validations from TrustArc, PRIVO, and 1EdTech, alongside an updated PowerSchool Global Privacy Statement designed to provide greater transparency into its privacy practices. Together, these certifications and validations establish PowerSchool as a globally compliant, privacy-first technology partner for K-12 education and demonstrate alignment with global privacy frameworks across Europe, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and the Asia-Pacific region.

These certifications include:

  • TRUSTe Global PRP Certification (cross-border data protection)
  • GDPR Practices Validation (European Union privacy compliance)
  • Data Privacy Framework (DPF) Verification (transatlantic data transfer compliance)
  • APEC Privacy Recognition for Processors (PRP) Certification (Asia-Pacific privacy accountability)

PowerSchool’s global privacy program includes the TRUSTe Global Privacy Recognition for Processors (Global PRP) Certification, an internationally recognized standard that verifies how organizations manage and protect personal data across global data transfers. Administered through the Global CBPR Forum and assessed by TRUSTe as a recognized Accountability Agent, the certification validates compliance with rigorous data security and privacy accountability requirements designed to enable safe, lawful cross-border data transfers.

While PowerSchool has previously maintained certifications such as DPF Verification and APEC PRP, the addition of GDPR Practices Validation represents a significant milestone, demonstrating alignment with one of the world’s most stringent and widely recognized data protection regulations.

The TRUSTe certification follows a three-phase process, using a combination of experienced privacy analysts, proven assessment methodology, and the TrustArc Privacy Platform.

In addition to these global certifications, PowerSchool evidenced its continued compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), through the collaboration with PRIVO, an FTC-approved COPPA Safe Harbor provider, addressing U.S. children’s data privacy requirements and strengthening protections for younger users and families. PowerSchool also maintains 1EdTech Data Privacy Certifications, which validate product-level compliance with education-specific data privacy standards, demonstrating adherence to industry-recognized best practices in education technology.

“Adhering to global privacy laws and regulations is foundational to everything we do at PowerSchool,” said Darron Flagg, Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Privacy Officer at PowerSchool. “Our work with TrustArc, PRIVO, and 1EdTech reinforces our ongoing commitment to responsible, accountable data stewardship across the diverse environments in which our customers operate. These certifications and validations provide clear, independent validation of the trust we work to earn every day with educators, families, and communities.”

Complementing these third-party validations, PowerSchool is also updating its Global Privacy Statement to provide customers, partners, and stakeholders with a clearer, more comprehensive view of how the company approaches privacy across its products, regions, and user types. The updated statement, which can be viewed here prior to its publication on October 1, 2026, reflects PowerSchool’s continued investment in transparency, regulatory alignment, and responsible data practices.

These independent certifications and validations build on the meaningful work and enhancements PowerSchool has made since the 2024 cybersecurity incident. That work includes significant investments in our cybersecurity program—new personnel, new access controls, new governance processes, and a new maintenance access portal built with stronger authentication standards. That sustained commitment to accountability is what districts, families, and students deserve. In education, trust depends on consistent action, clear communication, and a sustained commitment to protecting the data schools and families rely on.
