Sunny Hostin Productions and Sunny Hostin Partner With Fountain 0 to Develop Films Based on Her Bestselling Books and Pioneers a New Model for Creative Ownership

Hostin Says Emerging AI Production Technology Could Help Break Down Longstanding Barriers for Black and Brown Storytellers Whose Work Has Too Often Been Overlooked by Hollywood and Streaming Platforms

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fountain 0, the leading AI company dedicated to the generation of full-length high-quality AI generated motion pictures and television programs, announced today that six-time Emmy Award-winning journalist, attorney, television host and New York Times bestselling author Sunny Hostin has entered into an agreement to develop and produce one or more AI generated films based on her work, and to license her image and likeness for use in those productions.

The partnership will make Hostin the first major media personality to work with Fountain 0 in this capacity – leveraging AI to generate films -- and represents what both Hostin and the studio believe could be a significant new avenue for creators who have historically faced barriers to getting their stories financed, produced and distributed through the traditional Hollywood system.

For Hostin, that mission is central to the partnership.

“For years, we have heard Hollywood talk about diversity, equity and inclusion, and yet the barrier to entry for Black and Brown writers, producers, directors and creators remains extraordinarily high,” Hostin said. “Our stories are still too often treated as niche. We are still asked whether there is an audience for them. And even when our stories make it through the door, the people telling them are often asked to compromise the very things that make those stories authentic.”

Hostin continued, “Streaming was supposed to democratize storytelling and create more opportunities for voices that traditional Hollywood had overlooked. In many respects, that promise has not been fulfilled. We have watched diverse programming disappear, projects by creators of color struggle to secure financing and marketing support, and Black and Brown storytellers continue to fight for access to the same resources routinely committed to other projects.”

That experience has been particularly meaningful to Hostin as an author whose fiction centers on communities that have rarely been portrayed on screen.

“My novels celebrate Black life, Black love, Black wealth, Black history and the extraordinary legacy of historically Black beach communities in America,” Hostin said. “These are sweeping, beautiful, multigenerational stories. They deserve the same cinematic ambition, investment and attention that Hollywood has traditionally afforded other stories.”

Hostin added, “I have spent much of my career talking about who gets a seat at the table. What excites me about this technology is the possibility that creators may no longer have to wait for someone else to give them that seat. We may be able to build our own table.”

Fountain 0 recently produced Dreams of Violets, which premiered at the Tribeca Festival and became the first full-length live-action AI production to be accepted by a major film festival. The company is also preparing to release its newest film, Odysseus: The Fall, in the very near future.

Fountain 0 and Sunny Hostin also announced today that she would be the first major personality and influencer to agree to license her image to Fountain 0 for the development of her books. Fountain 0 stated that well known personalities licensing their images for use in AI generated films will be an innovative means of marketing those films to their followers.

Fountain 0 has developed proprietary software and a virtual production platform built on top of emerging AI video models. The studio says its technology can substantially reduce the cost of film production while allowing filmmakers to create cinematic environments, characters and sequences that traditionally would require significantly larger production budgets. Hostin also indicated that the economics of the technology are inseparable from its potential cultural impact.

“Talent has never been the problem in our communities,” Hostin said. “There is no shortage of extraordinary Black and Brown writers, directors, actors and producers. There is a shortage of access — access to capital, access to decisionmakers, access to meaningful production budgets, access to marketing dollars and, ultimately, access to audiences.”

“If technology can meaningfully lower those barriers while allowing creators to retain ownership, control their intellectual property and participate economically in what they create, then I believe we have an obligation to explore it,” Hostin continued. “For me, this is not about replacing artists. It is about giving more artists the ability to create.”
