Base Power Launches Commercial Electricity Plans Built to Save Texas Businesses Money

Businesses that have switched to Base Energy for Business are cutting their power bills by an average of 19%.

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Base Power today launched Base Energy for Business, expanding its retail electricity offering to Texas businesses. Base Energy for Business brings the same fixed-rate, no-hidden-fee model it built for residential members to small, medium, and large commercial accounts.

Base has quoted businesses across Texas, from restaurants and dental offices to machine shops and large commercial properties, and found that many are overpaying for electricity. What a business pays depends largely on when it last signed a contract, and many have not shopped their rate in years. Pilot members who have switched to Base are paying an average of 19% less than their previous rate.

"Texas businesses are operating in a power-to-choose market and have every right to shop their rate, most just haven't had a reason to until now," said Justin Lopas, COO and co-founder of Base Power. "We built Base Energy for Business because the problem is real, it's measurable, and it's fixable."

For small and medium businesses, Base offers straightforward fixed-rate commercial contracts with transparent pricing and no auto-renewal surprises. Large commercial and industrial accounts, multi-site operators, office parks, and properties with complex meter configurations have access to negotiated pricing, multi-meter batch enrollment, and a dedicated energy advisor team.

"The biggest differentiator with Base is that they felt more like a partner than a supplier," said Nick Plumlee, co-founder of Grove Pickleball in Dallas. "We're saving $300 a month, which is over $10,000 over three years. That means better lighting, better audio, and a bigger, more comfortable space as we expand."

The savings come from Base's business model. Base operates a network of home batteries that charge when demand on the grid is low and send power back when demand is high. That revenue comes back to members as a lower rate. Now businesses can access the low rates with no upfront costs. Base powers more than 30,000 homes across Texas and has raised over $2.5 billion, including a $1 billion Series D earlier this month. The company operates as a licensed retail electricity provider in the ERCOT market and recently expanded to Illinois.
