SurveillanceGrid’s Innovative Solutions Help Make Hollister Motorcycle Rally A Success

CA-Based integrator SurveillanceGrid teams up with industry leaders to deploy forward-thinking event security for Hollister CA’s annual Independence Day biker rally.

HOLLISTER, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SurveillanceGrid today announced the successful deployment of three innovative security technologies during the 2026 Hollister Independence Day Motorcycle Rally: a mobile CruiserCam, an intelligent traffic monitoring station, and AI-powered firearm detection. Each served a distinct mission while leveraging proven technologies from industry-leading partners, including Solis Energy, Axis Communications, Sorama, Hanwha Vision, Scylla AI, and Starlink.

The city’s large-scale annual gathering attracts thousands of riders and visitors from across the United States, presenting unique security challenges: dense crowds and heavy vehicle traffic in a dynamic environment with a large geographical footprint – all staged in a temporary event setting. This situation creates the need for increased surveillance coverage that can be deployed strategically with reliable communication and power.

SurveillanceGrid’s solutions, each designed to address operational challenges throughout the event demonstrated how resilient power, advanced sensing, reliable communications, and artificial intelligence can be combined into scalable security systems.

Solution 1: CruiserCam

For flexible event monitoring, SurveillanceGrid developed a mobile “CruiserCam.” A retired Ford Police Interceptor was retrofitted with an extendable and retractable mast, three Axis cameras (Axis PTZ Q6358, Axis Q6300, Axis P3268), satellite and LTE connectivity from Starlink and Teltonika’s M50 router, and onboard power from Solis Energy’s SPP Solar Power Plant. Together, these technologies created a flexible surveillance system that could be positioned wherever coverage was needed, providing multi-angle monitoring, reliable communications, and self-sufficient off-grid power. SurveillanceGrid CEO Warren Hackbarth on the CruiserCam’s reliability in the field: “All of the equipment for the CruiserCam ran flawlessly for the entire 3 days using only 50 percent of the 2 100Ah lithium batteries. With the ability to add up to 8 batteries, this mobile platform will support high-energy-consuming solutions for extended operation. That’s impressive.”

Beyond its flexibility and reliability, the CruiserCam demonstrates the practicality of repurposing existing resources. By building a deployment on a patrol vehicle scheduled for surplus, the system gave the Ford Police Interceptor new life as a security asset that can continue serving the city for years to come.

Solution 2: Intelligent Traffic Monitoring Station

With a high volume of motorcycle traffic during the rally, an intelligent traffic monitoring station monitored vehicle behavior, such as excessive speed and loud vehicles, to support traffic enforcement. An Axis Q1686-DLE Radar-Video Fusion camera, mounted on a Solis Energy industrial enclosure and augmented with a Sorama L642 intelligent acoustic and video analytics module, measured the speed and decibel levels of approaching vehicles. This provided officers with real-time data and valuable traffic insights without requiring physical presence.

Solution 3: AI-Powered Firearm Detection

As a final precaution, an AI-powered firearm detection solution from Hanwha and Scylla AI added another layer of proactive security throughout the event. Despite being installed on streetlights controlled by a central timer and electrical power available only 12 hours a day, Solis Energy’s Continuous Power Bridge ensured 7/24 uninterrupted operation of one of the rally’s most advanced security capabilities. Scylla AI’s gun detection analytics were selected for the rally because of its proven installed-base results, its ability to support an Edge Analytics topology on the existing street cameras, and its SOC 2 and ISO 27001:2013 certifications for information management and integrity. During the rally, this system demonstrated reliability and readiness to identify potential threats. As AI-powered devices become standard in modern security deployments, field-proven solutions like these will play an increasingly important role.

Deployment Results

"In law enforcement, the threats we face evolve every day, and our technology partners must evolve even faster,” said Hollister Police Chief Carlos Reynoso. “What sets SurveillanceGrid apart is its willingness to challenge conventional thinking and develop innovative surveillance solutions that address real-world public safety needs. They don't simply sell technology, they collaborate with agencies to create tools that enhance officer safety, strengthen investigations, and help us solve crimes more efficiently. Their commitment to innovation and their courage to develop solutions where none previously existed make them an invaluable partner to the law enforcement community."

“We’re extremely pleased with how the rally went,” said Hackbarth, “and we’re just as excited about what these technologies represent moving forward. We believe these deployments can serve as a blueprint for scalable security and safety solutions supporting everything from festivals and sporting events to critical infrastructure and smart city initiatives. We are clear on the applications, confident in the performance, and we see tremendous potential for these technologies to improve public safety in communities across the country.”
