Hello Heart Study Finds $7K Lower Medical Spend and Fewer Hospitalizations for Users With Heart Failure
Real-world analysis published in Value in Health demonstrates positive clinical and cost impact on high-risk populations
MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hello Heart, the leader in AI for preventive heart health, today announced new research published in leading health economics journal Value in Health, that found Hello Heart’s program is associated with significant reductions in healthcare costs and hospital utilization among users with heart failure.
Heart failure remains one of the most costly and burdensome chronic conditions in the United States, driving frequent hospitalizations and high medical spend. The study, titled “Impact of a Digital Cardiovascular Management Program on Healthcare Costs and Utilization in Patients With Heart Failure: A Propensity-Matched Cohort Analysis,” evaluated whether an AI-driven heart health program could meaningfully improve outcomes and reduce the cost of care for people with heart failure.
The propensity-matched cohort analysis examined medical claims data from adults with heart failure who participated in Hello Heart’s program, compared to a matched control group. Researchers analyzed healthcare costs and utilization in the year before and after enrollment in Hello Heart.
Key findings include:
- $7,001 reduction in total medical spend per participant
- 47 fewer inpatient admissions per 100 participants
- 297 fewer inpatient days per 100 participants
- Increased primary care engagement, with 139 additional visits per 100 participants
“These results show what is possible when people are given the tools and support to actively manage their cardiovascular health,” said study co-author Edo Paz, MD, a cardiologist and executive medical advisor at Hello Heart. “Heart failure is one of the most complex and expensive conditions to manage. By combining AI-driven personalized coaching, consistent monitoring, and advanced medication management tools, we can help people stay healthier while reducing the need for costly hospital care.”
The study included 292 program participants matched to 292 controls, with an average age of 56. Participants used Hello Heart’s connected heart monitor, app, and AI-driven health coaching to manage their unique cardiovascular risk factors.
“The increase in primary care visits suggests that participants were more engaged in proactive, preventive care,” added Paz. “This is an important shift that may help explain the reduction in acute events such as emergency visits and hospitalizations.”
