Navan Enhances Policy Controls to Provide Clearer Choices for Travelers and Greater Visibility for Global Programs

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Navan (NASDAQ: NAVN), the global AI-powered business travel and expense platform, today introduced its most granular set of policy controls yet. This next evolution of its policy and approval engine gives global enterprises precise financial control while providing travelers with even clearer choices.

Navan popularized dynamic travel policy in corporate travel, replacing rigid price caps with real-time, market-aware spending limits. These enhanced controls build on that foundation, applying more granular policy logic within the search and booking experience to give travelers clear, relevant choices while helping administrators keep more bookings, data, and spend within their managed programs.

“Many travel managers are facing an impossible task of responding to daily changes but with policies that were built for a world that moved once a year,” said Kim Hamer, Chief Travel Advisory Officer at Navan. “The answer is not a longer rulebook—it is a more adaptive model that allows people to operate without tying their hands behind their backs. Our enhanced policy controls do just that by giving travelers relevant guidance in the moment and providing organizations greater control and visibility to manage through changing business needs.”

Key capabilities introduced with this update allows travel managers to:

  • Expand flexibility for flight policies: Building on Navan’s existing traveler- and trip-aware controls, further tailor cost limits, cabin eligibility, advance-booking requirements, upgrade rules, and other parameters by traveler group and flight duration.
  • Define trip-length-aware rail policies: Tailor rail policy by journey duration and traveler group. Expanded cabin-class controls increase the number of categories from two to four, better reflecting the range of classes offered across the more than 60 rail carriers available through Navan.
  • Set flexible hotel limits across countries: Enforce country-level nightly hotel limits with city-specific exceptions, using them alongside dynamic, market-based policies or as a standalone spend control.

These enhanced controls respond directly to challenges travel and expense program leaders shared in a recent series of interviews conducted by Garner. As detailed in Navan’s latest report, managers are moving away from restrictive, manual rules toward dynamic guidance, intelligent automation at the point of booking, and integrated technology that strengthens budget control without limiting traveler autonomy. The new controls put that blueprint into practice by helping organizations tailor policy to the traveler, trip, and market context while keeping guidance clear and relevant.
