Madison Reed Appoints Consumer Investor and Brand-Builder Jay Sammons to Its Board of Directors

Former Global Head of Consumer at Carlyle Brings 20+ Years of Experience Scaling Category-Defining Consumer Brands

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Madison Reed, the prestige beauty brand revolutionizing the hair color industry, today announced the appointment of Jay Sammons to its Board of Directors. A veteran consumer investor and brand-builder, Sammons brings more than 20 years of experience partnering with founders to help build category-defining consumer brands.

The appointment comes as Madison Reed continues to accelerate its omnichannel growth across direct-to-consumer, its network of 98 owned-and-operated Hair Color Bars, and growing roster of retail partnerships including Ulta Beauty, Walmart, Target, and Sally Beauty. Sammons's deep experience advising and investing in founder-led consumer businesses will help guide the $200 million+ revenue company’s next phase of growth.

Sammons is an experienced investor, board director, and consumer sector leader with a track record of backing high-growth consumer businesses. Formerly Global Head of Consumer, Media and Retail at Carlyle, he oversaw investments in and served on the boards of category-defining brands including Beats, Supreme, philosophy, and OGX. After nearly 17 years at Carlyle, he founded SKKY Partners, an investment firm focused on investing in innovative, founder-led consumer businesses, including TRUFF and 111SKIN, where he also serves on the boards.

"It's an honor to welcome Jay to Madison Reed's Board of Directors," said Amy Errett, CEO and Founder of Madison Reed. "For more than two decades, Jay has partnered with founders to turn bold ideas into category-defining brands, from Beats to Supreme to philosophy. As we enter our next phase of growth, Jay's experience partnering with founder-led consumer businesses will be invaluable as we continue to lead the industry in consumer-centric innovation and shape the future of hair color.”

"Madison Reed is doing something rare: reinventing a legacy category with exceptionally high quality products and experiences that consumers genuinely love," said Jay Sammons. "Amy and her team have built a truly disruptive, omnichannel model that is redefining how women experience hair color, and I've long admired the company’s vision, execution and momentum. I'm excited to join the board and to help Madison Reed achieve its full potential."

Sammons is also actively involved at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he serves on the Executive Committee of the Honors Carolina Advisory Board and as an Adjunct Professor at the Kenan-Flagler Business School.
