Stunning Second-Weekend Momentum for THE ODYSSEY Drives the Most Successful IMAX Run in AMC Theatres History

From July 16 through July 26, AMC recorded the highest IMAX revenue in AMC’s history through the first two weekends for a single title

IMAX 70mm at AMC continues to see unprecedented demand, with AMC Lincoln Square 13 running around-the-clock showtimes Friday through Sunday and strong advance ticket sales at all IMAX 70mm AMC locations extending into mid-August

AMC is working with Universal Pictures and IMAX to add additional IMAX 70mm showtimes wherever possible

LEAWOOD, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AMC Theatres® (NYSE: AMC), the largest theatrical exhibitor in the United States and the world, today announced that THE ODYSSEY delivered a remarkable second weekend at the box office, helping AMC achieve its most successful IMAX run in AMC’s history through the first two weekends of a film's initial release.

After opening to a domestic debut of approximately $124.5 million, THE ODYSSEY continued its impressive run at the box office in its second weekend, generating a media reported $87 million domestically. Through Sunday, July 26, the film had earned approximately $286 million in North America and approximately $640 million worldwide. IMAX screens are singularly responsible for a significant percentage of those ticket sales.

The film's exceptional performance in IMAX is particularly notable for AMC, which operates approximately half of all IMAX screens in the United States, and more IMAX locations than any other exhibitor in North America.

From July 16 through July 26, AMC recorded the highest IMAX revenue in AMC’s history through the first two weekends for a single title. The achievement was fueled by extraordinary guest demand for viewing THE ODYSSEY in IMAX’s proprietary formats, particularly IMAX 70mm presentations.

Demand for THE ODYSSEY in IMAX 70mm remains unprecedented. For the second weekend in a row, AMC Lincoln Square 13 in New York ran IMAX 70mm showtimes 24 hours per day around the clock from Friday through Sunday.

Many of AMC's IMAX 70mm showtimes are sold out through mid-August. AMC is actively working with Universal Pictures and IMAX to explore opportunities to add additional IMAX 70mm showtimes wherever possible.

AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron said, "Christopher Nolan, his cast and crew along with Universal Pictures have created a brilliant cinematic event that audiences clearly want to experience in the most immersive formats available. We particularly want to salute our partners at IMAX, who played a key role in the making of THE ODYSSEY, which was shot entirely using IMAX cameras. We at AMC have long believed that our investing in premium large format experiences will be welcomed and valued by moviegoers. Today, AMC operates more IMAX locations than any other exhibitor in North America, and our guests are rewarding that commitment in record numbers. The historic performance of THE ODYSSEY in IMAX at AMC reinforces without doubt our strategy of offering moviegoers superb, technology advanced and immersive theatrical experiences."
