Alen BreatheSmart 25i Earns SleepScore Validated Seal After Independent Study Shows It Delivers the Equivalent of One Extra Night of Sleep Per Month

Independent study of more than 1,000 nights of sleep found participants slept an average of 16 minutes longer each night, spent more time in REM sleep and woke more refreshed with the Alen BreatheSmart 25i.

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alen, a leading air quality company specializing in advanced air purification, today announced the Alen BreatheSmart 25i air purifier has earned the SleepScore Validated seal of approval following an independent validation study conducted by SleepScore Labs. The study found participants slept longer and had better quality sleep when using the BreatheSmart 25i compared to sleeping with no air purifier in their bedroom, measured both objectively and by participants' own daily reports.

The Alen BreatheSmart 25i pairs medical-grade HEPA filtration with smart technology in a compact design built for bedrooms and other small spaces. Its medical-grade HEPA filter captures 99.9% of airborne particles as small as 0.1 micron, such as dust, pollen, pet dander, smoke, and other fine particulate matter, while smart sensors automatically adjust performance as indoor air conditions change. Quiet operation and app controls make the purifier well suited for overnight use.

The eight-week, in-home study followed adults who reported difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Participants tracked their sleep for four weeks without an air purifier, then for four weeks with the BreatheSmart 25i, using SleepScore Max non-contact sleep monitoring technology. The analysis covered more than 1,000 nights of objectively measured sleep.

Objectively measured sleep improvements included:

  • An extra 16 minutes of sleep per night on average, translating to 8 extra hours of sleep per month, roughly the equivalent of one additional full night of sleep every month
  • Better overall sleep quality, indicated by a higher SleepScore
  • 5 more minutes of REM sleep per night on average (a 7% increase), translating to an extra 2 hours and 30 minutes of REM sleep per month
  • A lower proportion of the night spent awake after initially falling asleep (an 11% relative decrease)

Participants also reported meaningful improvements in how they slept and how they felt:

  • 100% of participants felt it was easy to fall asleep with the BreatheSmart 25i, up from 68% without an air purifier
  • 80% felt they had high quality sleep, up from 28% without an air purifier
  • 88% felt satisfied with their sleep, up from 16% without an air purifier
  • 88% woke up feeling refreshed, up from 36% without an air purifier
  • Among participants with allergies, discomfort from allergy symptoms dropped 64%, from an average rating of 48 to 17 on a 100-point scale

Notably, these improvements occurred in healthy adults without diagnosed sleep disorders, a group with less room for improvement than a clinical population, and without invasive or pharmacological sleep interventions.

"Good sleep starts with a healthy sleep environment, and clean air is an important part of that equation," said Warburg Lee, CEO of Alen. "This independent study provides objective evidence that cleaner indoor air can help people sleep longer, wake more refreshed and improve overall sleep quality. The SleepScore Validated seal gives consumers confidence that the BreatheSmart 25i delivers measurable benefits they can trust."

"This marks Alen's third validation study with SleepScore Labs, reflecting a rare commitment to scientific rigor. The BreatheSmart 25i demonstrated statistically significant improvements in objectively measured sleep and has earned the SleepScore Validated seal on the strength of that evidence," said Colin Lawlor, CEO of SleepScore Labs. "We're proud to see that credibility translate into commercial momentum for our partners," he added.

About the Study

The study was conducted independently by SleepScore Labs from March through May 2026. Participants slept at home in their usual bedroom environment with windows closed, first for four weeks without an air purifier and then for four weeks using the Alen BreatheSmart 25i, providing ecologically valid, real-world results. Objective sleep was measured using SleepScore Max, a non-contact sleep monitor validated against polysomnography, the gold standard of sleep measurement. Self-reported outcomes were collected through daily questionnaires and pre- and post-study sleep experience surveys. Statistical significance was evaluated at p < .05.

About the SleepScore Validated Seal

The SleepScore Validated seal is awarded to products that demonstrate meaningful sleep benefits in an independent, scientifically rigorous validation study conducted by SleepScore Labs. The seal gives consumers confidence that a product's sleep claims are backed by real data, not marketing alone.
