Matera Introduces First-to-Market X9.150 Payment QR Code Software to Help Banks Accelerate Account-to-Account Payments
Enables banks and billers to unlock new revenue opportunities by delivering interoperable account-to-account payment experiences that let consumers scan, review and authorize payments from their mobile banking app
PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Matera, a leading provider of modern banking technology, today announced the launch of its Payment QR Code software, the first solution compliant with the newly approved ANSI X9.150 Merchant-Presented Payment QR Code Standard.
Payment QR codes have transformed the payment experience around the world, yet the United States has lacked a common interoperability standard

The platform enables financial institutions, payment providers and billers to deliver secure, interoperable account-to-account payment experiences across multiple payment networks, including FedNow®, RTP®, ACH credit transfers, the Zelle Network® and emerging digital payment methods such as stablecoins.
Payment QR codes can be embedded on printed and digital invoices, restaurant bills, online checkout pages or displayed at the point of sale. Consumers simply scan the QR code from within their mobile banking app, review the payment details and authorize payment.
Unlike traditional QR codes that simply direct consumers to a website, X9.150 QR codes are scanned from within an authenticated banking or payment application. Digital signatures supported by the X9 Financial PKI enable banking and payment applications to verify that each payment request is authentic and unchanged before payment is authorized, helping protect against QR code tampering and fraudulent QR code substitution.
"Payment QR codes have transformed the payment experience around the world, yet the United States has lacked a common interoperability standard," said Carlos Netto, CEO of Matera. "X9.150 provides that foundation. Our Payment QR Code platform gives banks a practical way to implement a single QR code standard while preserving the flexibility to support multiple payment methods."
Built on years of experience supporting large-scale account-to-account payment ecosystems, Matera's technology processes more than 3.6 billion QR code transactions annually, including peak shopping periods such as Black Friday.
The solution supports the full capabilities of the X9.150 standard, including:
- Immediate and future-dated payments
- Dynamic payment requests with discounts, late fees and promotional offers
- Flexible payment amounts, including full, minimum and merchant-defined payments
- Tips and gratuities with preset or custom amounts
"Matera has been actively involved in developing the X9.150 standard because we believe interoperability is essential to the future of account-to-account payments," said Netto. "A common QR code standard will make it easier for businesses to get paid and consumers to authorize payments securely from the banking applications they already trust."
Matera's Payment QR Code software is available immediately for financial institutions, payment processors and technology providers implementing the X9.150 standard.
