Marcus Theatres Records Highest June Revenue of All Time

Tremendous success of Toy Story 5 and strong performances from multiple exciting films drove June records at Marcus Theatres

MILWAUKEE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Marcus Theatres®, the nation’s fourth largest theatre circuit and a division of Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), announced today that it recorded the highest total revenue for June in company history.

These record results were driven by sustained excitement among Marcus Theatres’ moviegoers for the record-breaking debut of Toy Story 5, a well-rounded slate of June releases including Scary Movie and Disclosure Day, and continued strong carryover performances from films like Obsession and Backrooms. Records broken during June include:

  • The highest total revenue ever in the month of June.
  • Highest concession, merchandise, and food and beverage revenue ever in the month of June.
  • Record admission revenue per person for the month of June.
  • Record concession, merchandise, and food and beverage revenue per person for the month of June.
  • The highest box office since 2019 for the month of June.
  • Record single-day attendance for the Marcus Mystery Movie program with 18% of total attendance coming from the mystery title on Monday, June 29. Marcus Mystery Movie is an opportunity for moviegoers to catch a screening of an upcoming movie before its official release date with the title revealed at showtime.

More significantly, based on the domestic box office, we estimate that over 90 million people attended the movies in June. This substantial percentage of the United States population demonstrates their motivation to invest their valuable time and effort in Hollywood’s product, highlighting the immense power and wide-reaching influence of theatrical exhibition.

“Throughout June, moviegoers showed up in force to see an incredible lineup of great movies on the big screen,” said Jeff Tomachek, president of Marcus Theatres. “Without a doubt, Toy Story 5 delivered in record breaking fashion. But we also had unexpected blockbusters in Backrooms and Obsession that are still drawing moviegoers to the theatre. All this after strong and sometimes record-breaking turn out earlier in the year for movies like Project Hail Mary, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Michael and The Devil Wears Prada 2. Congratulations to our associates for helping drive these results by making magical movie memories for every guest who walks in our door.”

The remainder of the summer film slate features more exciting and highly anticipated new films at Marcus Theatres, including Minions & Monsters (July 1), Moana (July 10), The Odyssey (July 17), Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31), Super Troopers 3 (August 7), Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie (August 14), Insidious: Out of the Further (August 21), and Coyote vs. Acme (August 28).

Looking ahead to the rest of the year, additional films that are expected to perform well include: Practical Magic 2 (September 11), Resident Evil (September 18), Forgotten Island (September 25), Digger (October 2), Verity (October 2), Other Mommy (October 9), The Social Reckoning (October 9), Street Fighter (October 16), The Cat in the Hat (November 6), Godzilla Minus Zero (November 6), Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (November 20), Hexed (November 25), Focker-In-Law (November 25), Dune: Part Three (December 18), Avengers: Doomsday (December 18), The Angry Birds Movie 3 (December 23) and Jumanji: Open World (December 25).
