Albany Engineered Composites Engineer Rabih Mansour Authors ASM Handbook Chapter on Three-Dimensional Woven Composites

Publication showcases Albany's proprietary 3D-woven technology enabling next-generation metal replacement solutions for aerospace and defense.

ROCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Albany Engineered Composites, a segment of Albany International Corp. (NYSE: AIN), announced today that Rabih Mansour, Principal Engineer and Technical Fellow, authored the chapter titled "Three-Dimensional Woven Composites" for the American Society of Materials (ASM) Handbook, Volume 21: Composites, one of the industry's most respected technical references for materials engineering and manufacturing.

The publication recognizes Mansour's expertise in advanced composite materials while highlighting the growing role of three-dimensional woven composites in commercial aerospace, defense, space, rotorcraft and advanced air mobility applications. It also reflects Albany’s decades of innovation developing proprietary 3D-woven structures enabling the replacement of traditional metallic components with lighter, stronger and more manufacturable composite solutions.

"Rabih's authorship of this chapter reflects both his personal technical leadership and Albany's decades-long commitment to advancing composite technologies," said Brent Stevenson, Vice President, Emerging Markets and Technology at Albany Engineered Composites. "Our customers rely on Albany to solve some of the aerospace and defense industry's most complex engineering and manufacturing challenges."

Albany's proprietary 3D-woven structures enable engineers to rethink component design by replacing traditional metallic assemblies with integrated composite structures. The technology reduces part count, minimizes mechanical fasteners, lowers overall system weight and improves structural efficiency—helping aerospace and defense OEMs deliver lighter, higher-performing platforms while reducing manufacturing risk.

In the chapter, Mansour examines the evolution of three-dimensional woven composites, weaving architectures, mechanical properties, manufacturing methods and aerospace applications. He also explores how 3D-woven technologies improve structural efficiency by consolidating multiple components into single integrated structures, increasing manufacturing automation and supporting scalable production for next-generation aerospace systems.

"As aerospace platforms continue to evolve, engineers increasingly require materials delivering both superior performance and production readiness," said Mansour. "Three-dimensional woven composites provide a unique combination of structural efficiency, damage tolerance and design flexibility. As the industry continues replacing traditional metallic structures with advanced composites, 3D-woven architectures are becoming an increasingly important technology for future aerospace and defense systems."

ASM Handbook is widely recognized as one of the world's most authoritative technical references for materials engineers, researchers and manufacturers. Mansour's contribution reinforces Albany’s position as a leader in advanced composite innovation and highlights the company's continued investment in technologies supporting the next generation of aerospace and defense platforms.

The publication comes ahead of the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, where attendees are invited to visit Albany Engineered Composites in Hall 3, Stand 3330 to learn how the company's proprietary 3D-woven technology is enabling metal replacement across aerospace and defense while improving performance, reducing manufacturing complexity and accelerating production readiness.
