Synergy Health Partners Helps Hospitals Retain More Than $1.4 Billion in Revenue
Embedded specialist approach offers a long-term answer to coverage gaps threatening community hospital viability
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As rural and community hospitals face growing physician shortages, rising coverage costs, and service line closures, Synergy Health Partners (Synergy) today announced data showing its fractional care model has helped hospital partners retain more than $1.4 billion in revenue since 2014.
“Moving to an embedded fractional physician team helped stabilize our surgical program almost immediately and created a more consistent, reliable approach to caring for our community.”

Since its inception, Synergy has launched 90 fractional surgical and specialty staffing programs, served more than 100,000 surgical days, and helped hospitals preserve revenue that might otherwise have left their communities.
The results highlight a sustainable alternative to a growing healthcare challenge. The Association of American Medical Colleges estimates the U.S. could face a shortage of up to 86,000 physicians by 2036, while physician attrition may further widen the gap. Many hospitals have relied on locum tenens coverage to fill staffing shortages, but the model often brings unpredictable costs, limited continuity of care, and operational disruption.
By contrast, Synergy’s fractional care model embeds dedicated physician teams directly into hospital operations, providing predictable coverage, long-term care continuity, and greater service line stability.
"What started as an idea to solve a local challenge has become a national solution," said Dan Siegel, CEO, Synergy Health Partners. "Every day, we see the difference it makes for patients and communities that can access specialty care close to home. The shortage is growing, but so is our determination to help hospitals keep care local."
“The traditional coverage structure was becoming increasingly difficult to sustain,” said James Suver, CEO and President of Ridgecrest Regional Hospital in Ridgecrest, Calif. “Moving to an embedded fractional physician team helped stabilize our surgical program almost immediately and created a more consistent, reliable approach to caring for our community.”
Synergy continues to expand its hospital partnerships and specialty offerings while advancing its mission of helping hospitals keep high-quality specialty care close to home.
