LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Stan Lee: The Final Chapter, a feature film documentary from Convrsly Productions about the tumultuous final years of the legendary comic book creator who built Marvel Comics into one of the world’s most influential entertainment brands, is set to debut domestically on VOD starting July 28.

Stan Lee: The Final Chapter, distributed by Osmosis Global, will be available to rent/own on Apple, Amazon Prime Video, Fandango, and YouTube Movies & TV. The film, which is set for a premiere screening at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, was just awarded Industry Choice Award at this summer’s Dances With Films LA.

With exclusive, never-before-seen footage, Stan Lee: The Final Chapter gives a first-hand account of Lee’s enduring positivity, amidst the power struggles, exploitation, and behind-the-scenes turmoil that surrounded the beloved creator during his final chapter.

The film unveils new insights into what Lee experienced during that time, and the role individuals in his inner circle allegedly played in seeking control of his affairs. Producer, editor and filmmaker Jon Bolerjack, who served as Lee’s assistant during his final years, documented much of the period on camera. The resulting footage, captured over four years, forms the backbone of the documentary and provides a rare look at the challenges and manipulations Lee faced in his final years.

In the midst of personal hardships, Lee, whose tagline was “Excelsior!” maintained the optimism and resilience that defined him throughout his life, and inspired generations of fans, and that his beloved characters embody.

“Witnessing the treatment that Stan endured during those final years, especially at his age, really changes you,” said Bolerjack. “The people around him believed they were untouchable, and I felt a responsibility to document what was happening. It took ten years to finish this film, but sharing the truth about those years is something I owed to Stan and to his fans.”

Best known for creating iconic characters including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Black Panther, the X-Men, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, and other global franchises, Lee was the symbolic face of Marvel for decades before his death in 2018 at age 95.
