Empire State Realty Trust Named as a 2026 Platinum Green Lease Leader by the Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Alliance and the Institute for Market Transformation

ESRT is the only 2026 Green Lease Leader to have been an original Platinum winner, and has maintained this distinction since the Platinum tier was introduced in 2022

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Empire State Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE: ESRT) announced that it was selected as a 2026 Platinum Green Lease Leader by the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT), a recognition level that it has maintained since the new tier was introduced in 2022. With this award, ESRT is recognized for its integration of high-performance leasing and sustainability practices across 100% of its office, retail, and multifamily portfolio which deliver energy efficiency, cost savings, enhanced indoor environmental air quality, and sustainability for tenants.

“ESRT continues to collaborate with our high-quality tenants to build and operate energy efficient, healthy spaces that hit important sustainability targets to achieve considerable savings and returns for our tenants and stakeholders,” said Chairman and CEO Tony Malkin. “We are pleased to maintain the highest-possible tier and to report the highest adoption of green leases across the portfolio.”

ESRT’s continued leadership in sustainability reduced energy use by 49 percent at ESB since 2007 and 39 percent across the commercial portfolio since 2009. Prior to the inaugural Platinum distinction, ESRT was a Gold Lease Leader since the program’s launch in 2014.

“ESRT’s tenants are a step ahead toward long-term sustainability goals, regulatory compliance, and healthy buildings at an affordable price point when they join our portfolio,” said Dana Robbins Schneider, SVP, director of energy and sustainability. “Tenant partnerships on environmentally responsible, sustainable designs and operational practices are paramount to achieve key goals for sustainability and energy efficiency.”

Green Lease Leaders sets national standards for what constitutes a green lease and recognizes landlords and tenants who modernize their leases to spur collaborative action on energy efficiency, cost savings, air quality, and building performance. To achieve this recognition, ESRT qualified for credits in energy efficiency and sustainability best practices such as utility data tracking and sharing, cost recovery for capital improvements, and sustainability training.
