Standard Solar currently owns and operates 82.3 megawatts (MW) of solar and 5.6 MW of storage in New York. The addition of the Water Chestnut and Hanoverian community solar projects builds on that established portfolio and reflects the company’s continued pursuit of high-quality community solar assets across the state.
The two projects total approximately 8 MW and are located in Allegany and Monroe counties. Water Chestnut is a 3.9 MW community solar project located in Alfred Station in Allegany County, and Hanoverian is a 4 MW community solar project located in West Henrietta in Monroe County. Both projects received awards from NYSERDA and are expected to be completed in early 2027. Once operational, the projects will provide clean energy to New York communities while expanding access to the benefits of solar for local subscribers.
“New York has long been an important market for Standard Solar, and this acquisition builds on the established portfolio we already own and operate across the state,” said Megan Byrn, VP of Business Development, Standard Solar. “These projects reflect our continued focus on acquiring high-quality community solar assets in New York and nationwide. By working with experienced development partners like EDF power solutions, we can help move strong projects forward efficiently and deliver long-term value for customers, communities and the grid.”
New York remains a leading U.S. solar market, with more than 7,900 MW of installed solar capacity, enough to power more than 1.3 million homes, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association. The state ranks seventh nationally for installed solar capacity and continues to advance distributed solar through programs and policies that support community solar and broader renewable energy deployment.
“Standard Solar brings the long-term ownership experience and operational discipline needed to ensure these projects deliver sustained value,” said Rod Viens, Vice President and General Manager, Distribution-Scale Power at EDF power solutions. “We are pleased to continue working with Standard Solar to advance community solar deployment and support New York’s clean energy future.”
Standard Solar has a proven track record of acquiring, owning and operating projects developed by EDF power solutions and its predecessor entities, including the 9.9 MW Bluebonnet project in Texas and the Laswbrook and Knox Solar + Storage projects in Massachusetts. The company also acquired the Lehigh University solar project in Pennsylvania in 2023.
