Recheck Launches Certified Credential for Residential Solar Sales Representatives
Recheck Launches Certified Credential for Residential Solar Sales Representatives
New industry credential helps installers identify trained, trustworthy sales reps and sets a market-driven standard for residential solar
HANOVER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Recheck, the trust and compliance platform for residential solar, today announced the launch of Recheck Certified, a portable credential for residential solar sales representatives. Recheck Certified signals that a sales rep has completed Recheck's ethical sales training program, agreed to uphold a stringent code of conduct, passed a targeted background check, and is subject to ongoing performance monitoring. Violations of the code of conduct can result in the credential being revoked.
Six residential solar installers have committed to adopting Recheck Certified ahead of launch, together representing more than 5,000 sales professionals: Better Earth, Energy Service Partners, Our World Energy, SpartanX, Sunsolar Solutions, and Volt Home.

Residential solar sales representatives frequently move between installers, leaving companies with limited visibility into a rep’s prior training, professional conduct, and standing in the market. Recheck Certified addresses that gap with a portable credential that lets installers confidently onboard Certified reps and maintain consistent sales standards over time.
Six residential solar installers have committed to adopting Recheck Certified ahead of launch, together representing more than 5,000 sales professionals: Better Earth, Energy Service Partners, Our World Energy, SpartanX, Sunsolar Solutions, and Volt Home.
"Since the day we launched Recheck, installers have been asking me, 'This is great for finance companies, but how do I use it?'" said Tim Trefren, Recheck co-founder and CEO. "Recheck Certified is the answer. It gives installers a reliable way to know a rep is trained and trustworthy before they join the team, and it creates accountability after they do. In a business where reps move between installers all the time, that lets a company onboard any Certified rep with confidence."
"This isn't just a certification. It's education plus ongoing accountability," said Val Berechet, CEO of Sunsolar Solutions. "The training teaches reps to ask the right questions of their company, their leaders, and the market they're working in. And the continuous monitoring is what makes the credential actually mean something six months later. I think every finance company should require this."
Finance companies fund residential solar projects but have limited direct oversight of the training and conduct standards applied to the sales reps who originate those projects. Recheck Certified gives finance companies a simple way to recognize a consistent, market-driven standard of training, vetting, and ongoing accountability across the extended dealer networks that originate their business.
Palmetto, one of Recheck's founding finance partners, plans to make Recheck Certified a requirement for sales reps across its installer network later this year, and is encouraging its partners to begin enrolling reps at launch.
"We've been part of the Recheck network since day one because a healthy industry runs on trust and accountability," said Troy Roble, SVP Business Development at Palmetto. "By moving to require Recheck Certified across our network, we're giving our installer partners a clear, consistent bar to hire against — and giving homeowners peace of mind that the rep at their door has been trained, vetted, and has a clean track record."
The U.S. residential solar industry has grown to serve more than 5 million households, and with that growth has come increased scrutiny of sales practices. States have stepped in with their own rules, but no national standard for ethical sales has been adopted in the field. The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the national trade association for the U.S. solar industry, developed the ANSI/SEIA 401 Consumer Protection Standard to fill that gap. Recheck Certified is the first program to put it into practice.
“Millions of American households are choosing solar to control their energy costs, and strong consumer protections are essential to maintaining trust in the industry,” said Evelyn Butler, SEIA’s vice president of technical services. “Recheck Certified is the first training program SEIA has reviewed that covers the ethics and consumer protection sections of the ANSI/SEIA 401 Consumer Protection Standard, and we look forward to helping drive broader adoption of strong national standards across the residential solar market.”
For homeowners, a Recheck Certification means the salesperson at their door has been independently trained, vetted, and is continuously held to a professional standard.
What Recheck Certified Requires
To earn the Recheck Certified credential, sales representatives must:
- Complete the Recheck Certified Ethical Sales Training program, with modules on Ethics and Consumer Protection, System Fundamentals, and Finance and Contract Fundamentals.
- Sign and agree to uphold a code of conduct that defines the standards of behavior expected of Certified sales reps.
- Pass a targeted background check tailored to the unique needs and risks of the residential solar industry.
- Submit to ongoing monitoring, including investigation of misconduct reports from partner companies and the public.
Certified reps receive a publicly available online profile confirming their active status, serving as verification for installers, finance companies, and homeowners.
Certification is not a one-time achievement. Reports of misconduct trigger an investigation, and verified violations of the code of conduct can result in revocation. That continuous accountability is what makes the credential durable. Installers and finance companies can rely on it as an ongoing signal of standing, not a one-time snapshot.
Built on the Recheck Platform
The Certified program is an extension of the Recheck platform for residential solar finance companies, which verifies individual sales reps' identities and assigns them a unique Recheck ID. Launched in 2024 in partnership with market-leading finance companies, including Palmetto, Goodleap, and Sungage Financial, Recheck's finance partners today account for more than 90% of financed residential solar projects. Since launch, Recheck has verified more than 50,000 sales reps and 700 installers and dealers, and raised a $2 million pre-seed round from Overture, ReGen Ventures, Jetstream, and MCJ.
