A Port in the Storm: Clearfield® Modular Fiber Solutions Accelerate Hurricane Recovery in the British Virgin Islands

CCT and BVI Cable TV rebuild island-wide fiber network with pre-connectorized Clearfield technologies, cutting deployment times by 50% and accelerating storm restoration

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Clearfield, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLFD), a leader in fiber connectivity solutions for broadband, data center and network infrastructure environments, today announced that Caribbean Cellular Telephone Ltd. (CCT) and BVI Cable TV have rebuilt a large portion of the British Virgin Islands’ communications networks using Clearfield’s modular, pre-connectorized fiber technologies. According to CCT, these solutions cut deployment times in half while dramatically improving restoration speed after hurricanes.

Following the devastation of two Category 5 hurricanes in 2017, CCT rebuilt with a different priority: not just how fast it can be deployed, but how quickly it could be restored when the next storm hits. Today, the operator serves roughly one-third of households and numerous businesses across the territory using a fiber network built on Clearfield solutions.

“Considering the restoration advantages alone, Clearfield’s technologies are perfect for the Caribbean,” said Kyle Dasent, Chief Technical Officer at CCT. “I don’t see why every operator in our corner of the world is not using these solutions.”

In the British Virgin Islands, storms, heavy rainfall, and difficult terrain make traditional fiber deployment and repair slow and resource intensive. After the hurricanes destroyed CCT’s cable infrastructure, the company faced long equipment delays from legacy vendors with lead times that stretched from three to nine months, as well as a limited pool of skilled fiber splicers.

CCT partnered with Clearfield to take a different approach. Together, the companies designed a fully pre-connectorized, modular outside plant network in a matter of weeks. The network is built on Clearfield’s FieldSmart® Fiber Distribution Hub (FDH) cabinets, Clearview® Blue Cassettes, FieldShield® fiber and microduct solutions, and the YOURx®-Terminal plug-and-play platform.

“What CCT and BVI Cable TV have achieved shows what’s possible when networks are designed for both speed and survivability from the start,” said Anis Khemakhem, Chief Commercial Officer of Clearfield. “In hurricane-prone environments, modular, pre-connectorized architectures don’t just accelerate deployment, they fundamentally change how quickly communities can recover.”

To support the island’s branching road layout, Clearfield engineers developed a three-port version of the terminal, allowing fiber splits to be pre-configured at intersections without splicing. This reduced the need for specialized labor and made field work more efficient.

As a result, the network not only deploys faster but is easier to maintain and can be repaired far more quickly after storms. For operators in hurricane prone regions, that shift has real impact: less downtime, faster restoration, and a network that can be maintained with the resources available on the ground.

Clearfield will be showcasing its solutions at Fiber Connect 2026 in Booth #1425. For more information on Clearfield and its innovative fiber solutions, visit www.SeeClearfield.com.
