Scoop Commute Launches in New York City to Help Commuters Navigate the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) Strike

Carpool app offers two free credits with code LIRR02 as New Yorkers face high gas prices, congestion pricing, and rail disruptions

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Scoop Commute, the carpool app that has helped hundreds of thousands of commuters get to work affordably and sustainably, today announced its launch in New York City to assist commuters stranded by the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) strike disrupting daily commutes for hundreds of thousands of riders. Scoop is stepping in to give New Yorkers a reliable, neighbor-powered alternative for getting to work and back home.

Jeremy Zuker, CEO of Scoop: "Scoop exists because getting to work shouldn't break the bank or the planet. Launching in New York right now is our way of showing up for this city when it needs a hand."

To welcome the city, Scoop is giving every new rider and driver two free carpool credits when they sign up on the Scoop app with the code LIRR02. For passengers, that's two free trips, and for drivers, it's a double reimbursement on the trips they take, putting real money back in their pockets while helping a neighbor get to work.

"New Yorkers are some of the most resourceful commuters in the country, but the past few years have stacked the deck against them thanks to skyrocketing gas prices, congestion pricing, and now an LIRR strike that's left people stranded," said Jeremy Zuker, CEO of Scoop. "Scoop exists because getting to work shouldn't break the bank or the planet. Launching in New York right now is our way of showing up for this city when it needs a hand."

Scoop matches commuters going the same way at the same time. Riders and drivers schedule their morning commute by 9 p.m. the night before, and their ride home by 2 p.m. the same day. Scoop handles the matching, the routing, and the payment so commuters can focus on getting where they need to go. Most trips fall between $5 and $15 for passengers, and drivers get reimbursed in the same range per trip.
