Passkeys Hit Mainstream in Singapore: FIDO Alliance Reports Widespread Adoption Following World Passkey Day 2026
New research from the FIDO Alliance finds near-universal awareness of passkeys in Singapore, with strong adoption rates among consumers and enterprises
SINGAPORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Following World Passkey Day 2026, the FIDO Alliance announced a major milestone: an estimated 5 billion passkeys are now in use worldwide. This milestone reflects a significant shift away from passwords toward passkeys for sign-in, which is supported by new data from FIDO’s State of Passkeys 2026 report.
The report is being released ahead of Authenticate APAC 2026 on 2 - 3 June in Singapore, which will bring the industry together and address the challenges highlighted in the data. From accelerating workforce deployments to closing the gap between passkey usage and reducing reliance on passwords. For organizations still weighing the move away from passwords, Authenticate APAC 2026 offers the opportunity to hear and learn from peers who have already made the shift, and from the wider ecosystem that enables the transition from passwords to passkeys.
In Singapore, the research spanned 1,000 consumers and 100 enterprise decision-makers in the country, with the data showing high awareness and strong deployment momentum across both consumers and organizations in the market.
- 80% of people in Singapore are now aware of passkeys
- 65% of people in Singapore have enabled a passkey on at least one account
- 38% of people in Singapore use passkeys regularly when available
- 65% of Singapore organizations have deployed or are actively deploying passkeys for employee sign-ins
- 83% say fully passwordless authentication is an ultimate goal within the workforce, with 30% having achieved this goal
This growth reflects a clear and shared demand for sign-in experiences that are simple, secure, and trusted. It has been driven by coordinated efforts across the FIDO ecosystem to develop open standards, publish best practices, and lead through real-world deployment. More than 200 organizations worldwide have taken the FIDO Alliance's Passkey Pledge, demonstrating industry-wide commitment to advancing adoption.
"Singapore has long been recognized as one of the world's most digitally advanced economies, and the data reflects that — with account compromise rates well below global and regional averages,” said Andrew Shikiar, Executive Director and CEO of the FIDO Alliance. "But strong foundations create the opportunity to go further, and the shift toward passkeys and phishing-resistant authentication is the logical next step. We're looking forward to that conversation with the APAC community at Authenticate APAC in Singapore this June."
The State of Passkeys 2026 report also reveals the scale of the damage still being caused by passwords and the risk some businesses remain exposed to.
Passwords Are Still Causing Real Consumer Harm
Despite the growth of passkeys, passwords remain widespread enough to create significant risk and friction.
One in seven Singapore consumers (14%) experienced an account compromise or received a breach notification in the past year. This continued impact reflects how many services still rely on passwords, despite the availability of more secure alternatives. Singapore compares favourably to the global average of 33% and the APAC average of 41%, demonstrating a strong digital security environment, but a significant number of accounts remain at risk.
The commercial cost is also significant, though again Singapore fares better than its global peers: 25% of Singapore consumers say they are likely to abandon a purchase or sign-in when they cannot remember their password, with 6% saying they are highly likely to do so. Globally, 47% of consumers report the same likelihood, rising to 51% across APAC.
Workforce Deployment Is Advancing, with Opportunity to Scale Usage
Organizations in Singapore that have deployed passkeys report measurable benefits, including improved security confidence (49%), fewer password reset tickets (37%), faster employee logins (38%), improved employee satisfaction with IT (35%), and reduced phishing-related incidents (17%).
At the same time, there is still room to expand passkey usage within the workforce. A majority (63%) of organizations continue to rely on password-based methods for employees' primary day-to-day sign-in. In an environment where phishing remains a leading attack vector, this continued dependence represents a meaningful exposure. Across the broader APAC region, 72% of organizations are already deployed or actively deploying passkeys, and 37% have achieved a fully passwordless workforce – above Singapore's figures of 65% and 30% respectively – pointing to the significant upside available to Singapore organizations that accelerate their passkey journeys.
Among organizations not yet fully passwordless, 13% say passwords plus MFA are currently sufficient – below the global average of 16% and the APAC average of 18% – while 34% say they are waiting for technologies and standards to mature further, compared to 24% globally and 19% across APAC, highlighting the need for continued education on the importance and availability of phishing-resistant authentication.

State of Passkeys 2026
This release draws on two parallel studies conducted simultaneously by Sapio Research in April 2026 on behalf of the FIDO Alliance. A Consumer Study surveyed 11,000 consumers across ten countries: the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, China, and India. The margin of error is ±0.9 percentage points at 95% confidence. A Workforce Study surveyed 1,400 decision-makers across the same ten countries, all screened for direct involvement in decisions about employee sign-in, authentication, or passkey deployment at organizations with 500 or more employees. The margin of error is ±2.6 percentage points at 95% confidence. Both studies were conducted online by Sapio Research using an email invitation and an online survey. Singapore-specific figures are based on 1,000 consumer respondents and 100 workforce decision-makers.
