J-Squared Technologies Expands its Ottawa Campus with Canada’s Only Large-Format NEMP-WM Nuclear Testing and NATO Secret Secure Storage

Critical new defence manufacturing and testing capabilities to be unveiled at May 13th Grand Opening

KANATA, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--J-Squared Technologies, Inc., a global leader in edge computing, is expanding its Ottawa campus with 26,000 sq ft. of new space dedicated to critical defence manufacturing and testing capabilities. The new facility (103A Schneider Road, Kanata) is home to Canada’s only large-format NEMP-WM (Nuclear Electromagnetic Pulse-Waveguide Method) test facility, capable of simulating nuclear EMP conditions, NATO Secret Level II storage, purpose-built to support classified projects and inventory with the highest levels of security and compliance, and a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing and assembly area dedicated to militarized cabinets, tactical communications solutions, specialized servers, and custom cable assemblies.

“It’s vital that Canadian technology firms support the Department of National Defence requirements and initiatives with a sustained pipeline of innovation,” said J-Squared CEO Jeff Gibson.

The multi-million-dollar expansion is integral to J-Squared’s 5-phase strategic initiative started in 2023 to develop a network of Secure Innovation Hubs. Spanning Western Canada, Eastern Canada and the Arctic North, the hubs will provide manufacturing and testing support and expertise for startups, SMBs, universities, federal and provincial government departments, and research organizations. The investment into the hubs, equipment and infrastructure underscores J-Squared’s commitment to a strong, sovereign Canada with a robust military technology supply chain. J-Squared’s new Kanata site comes after a $10M infrastructure 2023-2025 upgrade at J-Squared subsidiary ESL Labs in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

“It’s vital that Canadian technology firms support the Department of National Defence requirements and initiatives with a sustained pipeline of innovation,” said J-Squared CEO Jeff Gibson. “This is only achieved through a long-term commitment to talent, investment and resources within our borders.”

J-Squared’s expansion at its Kanata headquarters, the technical core of the Secure Innovation Hubs, will be unveiled at a private Grand Opening event on May 13. The Honourable Jenna Sudds will participate in a ribbon-cutting alongside J-Squared partners L3Harris, Lockheed Martin Canada, Hanwha Ocean, IBM Defence, and Landing Zones.

“As the modern battlefield evolves, defense solutions must prioritize rapid adaptation," stated Cheyane Wicks, Military Sector General Manager at J-Squared. "J-Squared remains committed to scaling our secure innovation hubs and championing sovereign Canadian technologies. Our focus is on agile operation and deep collaboration to engineer solutions tailored for today’s complex mission requirements."

J-Squared powers advanced military platforms across land, sea, air, and space, including manned and unmanned systems such as UAVs, autonomous vehicles, and naval combatants. Solutions enable today’s critical capabilities such as tactical communication, navigation, weapons guidance, real-time ISR, image analysis, and sensor fusion for modern multi-domain operations.
