New Pharmaceutical Reform Alliance Poll: Americans Agree on One Thing – Rein in Big Pharma

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, the Pharmaceutical Reform Alliance (PRA) released new national polling results that show significant consensus across party lines that affordability is a top concern for voters, especially regarding healthcare and prescription drugs costs. As America’s affordability crisis rages on with no end in sight, there is rare, overwhelming bipartisan support for a key campaign issue ahead of the midterm elections: prescription drug pricing reform. Polling data suggests that both Democrats and Republicans support policies to lower the price of prescription drugs, and that voters across the country will support candidates who take on Big Pharma.

Axis Research and brilliant corners partnered to conduct the survey, and below are some key takeaways.

Voters see drug prices increasing, blame pharmaceutical companies, and believe drugmakers are raising drug prices to increase corporate profits and executive compensation.

• 68% say that the cost of prescription drugs has increased in the past year.
• 94% of voters assign blame for the high cost of healthcare to pharmaceutical companies.
• 68% of voters do not trust pharmaceutical companies to price their products fairly.
• The overwhelming majority of voters say corporate profits (80%) and executive compensation (73%) are top factors contributing to high drug prices.

American voters across party lines overwhelmingly support drug pricing reform.

• 89% of all voters support U.S. drug pricing reform.
• Seven specific policy proposals aimed at lowering prescription drug prices each clear 80% total support, including international price matching (87%), reforming the patent system to bring cheaper drugs to market faster (81%), and adjusting direct-to-consumer advertising practices (88%).
• 76% of all voters support Congress codifying President Trump’s “Delivering Most-Favored Nation Prescription Drug Pricing to American Patients” Executive Order, including overwhelming support from Republicans (91%), Independents (70%), and Democrats (64%).
• 77% of voters say they are more likely to support a candidate who fights the pharmaceutical industry.
