Highnote Powers a New Era of Commercial Card Issuing for Online Travel

OTA platforms can now run on Highnote’s commercial card issuing platform, with virtual card programs purpose-built for travel supplier payments at scale

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Highnote, the unified platform for modern issuing, acquiring, credit, ledger, and money movement, today announced expanded commercial card issuing capabilities for online travel agencies (OTAs), marketplaces, and travel platforms. Leading OTA platforms now operate virtual card programs on Highnote, with purpose-built workflows for the unique demands of travel supplier payments.

Our platform was purpose-built so that the leading OTAs and travel marketplaces can move faster, differentiate their payment experiences, and continuously innovate while operating at scale.

Highnote’s commercial card issuing platform gives travel companies the infrastructure to build differentiated supplier payment programs at scale. Customers can configure single-use virtual cards tied to bookings, staged supplier capture, and granular spend controls across merchant categories, all underpinned by an integrated ledger that delivers real-time visibility into every authorization and capture. The result is faster reconciliation, stronger supplier relationships, and improved unit economics on every transaction, driven in part by access to wholesale travel BINs across both major global card networks.

Both major card networks have publicly highlighted Highnote’s role in modern travel payments in their most recent earnings calls.

“Travel is one of the most demanding environments in commercial payments, and what our customers are building on Highnote reflects that,” said John MacIlwaine, CEO of Highnote. “Our platform was purpose-built so that the leading OTAs and travel marketplaces can move faster, differentiate their payment experiences, and continuously innovate while operating at scale. We are proud to power their programs, and we are seeing this same model unlock better economics across many other industries as well.”

Unlike fragmented legacy approaches that require travel platforms to stitch together multiple vendors and inconsistent economics, Highnote brings issuing, controls, ledger, and reconciliation into a single system. This allows customers to launch programs in weeks rather than quarters and to evolve them continuously as their business grows.

Highnote has also further optimized its Virtual Card Express (VCX) solution, which enables companies to launch and scale virtual card programs with speed and efficiency, by incorporating access to these wholesale travel BINs. This allows platforms to onboard faster and streamline the implementation of modern supplier payment models.

These capabilities are available today as part of Highnote’s commercial card issuing programs and are delivered in partnership with Highnote’s onboarding, compliance, and program management teams.
