Voyage Launches the First AI-Native RPG Platform, Signaling the Future of Gaming

  • Google’s AI Futures Fund and top executives from Roblox join NFX, Griffin Gaming, Midjourney and Album VC as the latest investors
  • Voyage combines the limitless possibilities of AI with the fun of traditional game mechanics

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Latitude today launched Voyage, the world’s first AI role-playing game (RPG) platform. Voyage is the first RPG where nothing is scripted: every world is player-created, every character thinks for itself and every choice has real consequences.

Google’s AI Futures Fund and top executives from Roblox, including former Chief Business Officer and current Latitude board member Craig Donato, join NFX, Griffin Gaming Partners, Midjourney and Album VC as investors in Voyage. This signals a definitive shift away from static, pre-scripted entertainment toward AI-native, interactive experiences.

Traditional RPGs, a $47 billion global market, are built on scripted storylines, pre-written destinies, and non-player characters (NPCs) that repeat the same lines and actions. Players have long been promised limitless choices, only to find themselves hitting invisible walls due to technological limitations.

Voyage replaces those limitations with dynamic worlds that unfold in real time based on any choice a character makes, no matter how simple or complex. Narratives emerge dynamically and adapt on the fly, resulting in personalized and unique RPG experiences anyone can enjoy. Nearly 60% of early users are calling Voyage revolutionary.

“In gaming, the player has always wanted to be the author. Voyage is the first platform built around this truth,” said James Currier, General Partner, NFX. “What started as a raw experiment with AI Dungeon is now becoming an entirely new gaming category, and it's one that defines how the next generation of RPGs gets built.”

Voyage players enjoy novel gaming experiences bolstered by:

  • Unrivaled Character Depth: Characters in Voyage demonstrate lifelike depth by remembering past interactions and details with clarity and across sessions. NPCs take action based on their own internal motivations. They can hold grudges, change alliances and pursue goals, and react in the moment based on new information.
  • True Player Agency: Character choices impact other characters and the world around them, driving novel, non-linear storytelling. The experience is personalized, unpredictable and completely immersive. Decisions carry real consequences.
  • The Disappearing Line Between Player and Creator: Given that world creation is as easy as describing it in natural language, building a world is part of the game, not a necessary precursor to fun. Defend an 18th-century fishing village against an alien invasion. Build a noir mystery set in a space station. If it can be imagined, it can become a game.

Latitude's World Engine Brings Voyage to Life

These experiences are powered by Latitude’s proprietary World Engine, a deterministic system that governs world state, character memory, and rule enforcement. Where most AI systems default to agreeable improvisation, Latitude’s World Engine sits atop the underlying AI as an impartial Game Master. It tracks health, inventory, currency, geography, relationships and long-term consequences across thousands of turns so the AI can’t hallucinate them away. Voyage represents five years of R&D and six prototype engines, evolving from experimental text adventures into a structured, persistent RPG platform.

Latitude first introduced AI-native gaming in 2019 with AI Dungeon, which has grown into a community of millions of players and tens of thousands of creators exploring AI-native storytelling.

“We are moving from static narratives to simulated worlds,” said Nick Walton, Co-Founder and CEO of Latitude. “For decades, NPCs have been static dialogue systems. Voyage transforms them into autonomous agents with memory, logic, and consequence. For the first time, creators can describe a world in plain English and immediately invite others into a living RPG that writes its own history.”

About Voyage

Voyage is the first RPG platform where nothing is scripted: every world is player-created, every character thinks for itself and every choice has real consequences. Built on Latitude's proprietary World Engine, Voyage lets players describe any world they can imagine, then drops them inside it, where characters develop their own motivations, storylines emerge from player decisions and the game keeps evolving even after you log off. No dialogue trees. No pre-planned destinies. Just imagination in, living world out. Backed by NFX, Google’s AI Futures Fund, top executives from Roblox, Griffin Gaming Partners, Midjourney and Album VC, Voyage is the foundational infrastructure for AI-native gaming. Latitude first introduced AI-native gaming in 2019 with its flagship product, AI Dungeon, which demonstrated large-scale consumer demand for interactive narrative play. Reaching millions of players and tens of thousands of creators, Latitude was the first company to leverage large language models for open-ended game creation. Learn more at latitude.io.
