Frontgrade Launches Versal®-Powered SpaceVPX™ Processing and Fiber I/O Platform for Next-Generation Missions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Frontgrade™ Technologies, a leading provider of high-reliability electronic solutions for space and national security missions, today announced two complementary products delivering scalable, high-performance processing and high-speed connectivity for next-generation missions: the RPMG1-SVPX Reconfigurable Processing Module and the FIOM-RPMG1 Fiber Optic Mezzanine Card. Together, these products form the MAMBA (Modular Approach for Mission Processing in a Bifurcated Architecture) integrated solution, a standards-based VPX and VNX architecture that scales from LEO constellations to Class A missions and operates from vLEO to cislunar orbits, providing a SWaP-optimized compute and I/O platform for users seeking greater onboard performance with reduced system complexity.

“The combination of Versal adaptive compute and high-speed fiber connectivity in a SpaceVPX architecture gives our customers a new level of onboard performance and integration flexibility,” said Lorne Grave, SVP & Chief Technology Officer at Frontgrade. “With RPMG1-SVPX and FIOM-RPMG1, we’re enabling mission designers to consolidate processing, accelerate data movement, and deploy more intelligent, autonomous systems while meeting the reliability demands of space and defense environments.”

The RPMG1-SVPX is a 3U SpaceVPX™ processing module built on the AMD Versal® VC1902 SoC, integrating dual Arm® Cortex®-A72 processors, dual Cortex-R5 real-time cores, programmable logic, and AI/ML and DSP engines to support deterministic control, hardware-accelerated signal processing, and software-defined mission management.

Designed for compute consolidation and multi-mission flexibility, the RPMG1-SVPX enables onboard AI inference, deterministic processing, and data reduction before downlink, improving performance while reducing SWaP, NRE costs, and deployment time. Flight options with optimized parts, assembly, integration, and testing support multiple mission classes. Equipped with 16GB ECC DDR4, 1GB MRAM, and 128GB NAND, it supports EO/IR, SAR, SDR, EW, SIGINT, image processing, and autonomous decision-making workloads.

Complementing the processor, the FIOM-RPMG1 Fiber Optic Mezzanine provides high-speed I/O expansion and hybrid networking. It converts VC1902 I/O signals to rugged Glenair Nano-D and circular fiber connectors and supports six 1000Base-T Ethernet ports, eight RS-422 interfaces, LVDS PPS timing, and a Firehawk™ CSSO 10GBASE-SR optical transceiver with four duplex fiber ports. Its compact, low-mass, low-power design maximizes slot efficiency for SWaP-constrained platforms while enabling high-bandwidth, EMI-immune fiber connectivity.

The RPMG1-SVPX is offered as a standalone solution or paired with the FIOM-RPMG1. Together, they deliver a flexible networking platform that consolidates functionality, increases onboard autonomy, and enhances reliability in harsh environments. Commercial options are available to support accelerated acquisitions. Learn more: RPMG1-SVPX and FIOM-RPMG1.
